I worked at Shire full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Salary range according to market
Rare Diseases and Specialized Pharma business with all it charms
    Fantastic staff

    Cons

Reward an recognition systems not very efficient
Mediocre training and lack of know-how
Company focused on its shareholders, not its employees

    Advice to Management

The organization has fantastic and motivated staff, but fails in the recruiting of the top managers. The whole organization is focused in the value for the shareholder not employee training and satisfaction. The enterprise has short term vision

    I worked at Shire full-time

    Pros

    Great product and most employees genuinely care and want to contribute to better the lives of patients;
Lots of committed professional driven employees

    Cons

High degree of amateurism and too commercial in its approach,
doesn't want to be an industry trailblazer, focussed on making its sales numbers
Weak executive management with arrogant attitude and short term thinking

    Advice to Management

    Show responsibility and humility
Pay Equal importance to patients and personnel
Create a genuine ethical business culture and inclusive employee culture, not just nicely wrapped up progams

I have been working at Shire full-time

    Pros

    Rare diseases
    Some great people
With high attrition there are some good career opps

    Cons

    US centric
Recent announcement of up to 300 USD 'savings' the company will try and achieve until 2023 - will no doubt mean cuts in all sorts of places
     very shareholder reactive
Some bullying behaviors observed in parts of the business and senior leadership

    Advice to Management

Short term view for the business
No employee focus, and any focus on employees is to address recent shareholders concerns

I have been working at Shire full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good team, straight management, low politics, good hours, good benefits.

    Cons

Have not found any yet. It is a relatively new team, but we really work well together to learn about the business.

    Advice to Management

Knowledge transfer files would be really useful to onboard quicker and also task ownership matrices as in who does what when.

I worked at Shire (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dynamic, great experience, good package, flat management structure, lack of bureaucracy, able to get things done easily.

    Cons

Constant changes of direction, office location and leadership are exhausting. There is a lack of respect for people's personal lives and a lack of gratitude and loyalty from senior leaders to committed and talented employees. You get the sense everyone is expendable.

    Advice to Management

Consolidate and execute. Stop with daft spin offs etc.
Change was needed but now it's going too far, too fast and unnecessary. Being driven by investment bankers now, hunting fees, rather than common sense.

I have been working at Shire full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Used to be a good place before the current management change after the aquisition. Listened to people and team, cared about what people experience taught them.

    Cons

After the acquisition, it has become a very dictatorial company, managers and executive team is arrogant, bullying people to do what always prove to be wrong approach. People are leaving right and left and we cannot recruit others to replace them, ethics is the last thing on the agenda. People are not part of the equation, they are more interested in making money without taking patients into the center of what they do by pricing products out of any health authority ability. Patients always pay the price for the greed of this company

    Advice to Management

Listen to your teams in the countires, recruit people from LoCs who understands the reality of commerical and reimbursmenet, not just because they are friends of some one on top. Stop aquiring companies that has no value to add.

    Pros

Financial package - salary, bonus, stock and other benefits

    Cons

    Culture has been destroyed
Great people have left or are leaving (pushed as well as choosing)
Promotions given to people who have little experience and are 'yes' people

    Advice to Management

Most senior management level has created this situation - what is the solution?

    I worked at Shire full-time

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Good people.

    Cons

Constant reorganisation and office moves. When staff are cut you will be expected to pick up double the work. There is no loyalty to employees and everyone is constantly waiting for the next big change to dampen morale further. Don't think you are safe in your job at Shire.

    Advice to Management

Sort out employee morale and stabilise the business. More changes will lead to a loss of talent and destroy any last motivation anyone has.
