Pros

Due to bad experience, no pros were determined.

Cons

Development management is horrible. Creates a lot of problems and promotes inappropriate behavior. Discreet about it but internally it is a well known issue. Leasing acted out of line, raised hand on an employee when the employee was simply performing one of the job responsibilities. The incident was reported to HR. The end result, no one executed terminating the wrong doer. The employee left the company because not only due to this issue but other issues included, lost all respect and did not wish to tolerate the wrong doer(s) on daily basis. To say this was a bad experience is to say the least.

Pros

Shorenstein treats its employees very well. They tend to hire the best in their field, so the company is full of very intelligent and hard-working individuals. While it's a professional environment, coworkers are still very friendly and focused on building long-term relationships, due in part to the long tenure of many employees and lots of cross-functional work. Coming from a start-up background, something that originally attracted me to the company was it's stability and the fact that it has survived through many ups and downs in the market. 4+ years later and in the middle of a pandemic, that remains just as attractive to me now as it was when I first started. Finally, Shorenstein offers very attractive and competitive compensation packages.

Cons

Due to the long tenure of many employees, it can be difficult to advance quickly. While Shorenstein invests in its employees through training and the ability to take on new challenges, the higher up you are, the more limited the opportunities for advancement in title become. There's also not as much flexibility with working from home as you might expect in the Bay Area (though during the pandemic, they've allowed corporate office employees to work from home full-time).
