Former Contractor - Content Production Designer in Redwood City, CA

I worked at Shutterfly for less than a year

    Pros

It's a great place to work. They have a lot of fun activities outside of work for employees. The kitchen is stocked and there are lots of areas to work besides your desk.

    Cons

Sometimes it feels like they're moving slow.

I worked at Shutterfly for more than a year

    Pros

The hours were great! Fellow coworkers worked well together.

    Cons

Filing a complaint, gets you fired. Being harrassed and standing up for yourself, gets you fired. Working hard and having a minor policy violation occur because you were working to fast to keep up with the production, such as a shirt coming untucked or hair falling out of a hair tie, gets you fired. Being on time daily, having good work ethic, and working hard gets you fired if the wrong person decides they don't like you. They don't pay great competitive wages, they don't follow through with bonuses promised and they are not understanding of people being sick.

I worked at Shutterfly for more than a year

    Pros

Management stinks they fear staff who know more than they do

    Cons

Treat experienced people like crap. Managers sabotage work and examples of alleged poor work mysteriously disappeared. Don't work here if you're over 45 rampant age discrimination no chance for advancement.

I worked at Shutterfly for more than a year

    Pros

Vibrant, fun product. On-the-job training for Wedding Paper Divas. A culture of brightness and whimsy. Positive atmosphere, though it seemed forced by the end.

    Cons

Promised conversion to full-time; never happened. Hours would swing wildly—you'd be working overtime one week and then maybe 28 hours the next. No chance for advancement no matter how hard one worked. Jaded graphic designers who were upset that their graphic design degree didn't bring them riches.

I worked at Shutterfly for more than a year

    Pros

Coworkers were wonderful. We were like a family.

    Cons

Contractors are sometimes treated differently by management. Company is profit over people. CEO seems very out of touch with employees.
