I worked at Simplyhealth full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The majority of the people are friendly .

    Cons

Old school senior leadership style which is out of touch with the majority of colleagues who work hard and care about the organisation's purpose. Not the greatest location. People are often in leadership positions due to length of service, rather than due to experience, skill or aptitude. Over reliance on consultants and consultancies. Strategic U turns occur on a regular basis due to lack of clear and strong leadership....

    Advice to Management

Align, understand that only by truly working together can members, colleagues and the communities the organisation supports benefit. Listen to your people and stop talking about engagement and then acting in ways which is disengaging and counter productive. Cut the consultancies - your people are experienced and talented, empower them to deliver on the purpose of the organisation.

I worked at Simplyhealth full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great benefits package Great bunch of people to work with, people are all friendly The culture (in pockets)

    Cons

A lot of change involving new Senior Managers, all wanting to make 'their' change Too much involvement from consultants without listening to the employees There is no empowerment or development

    Advice to Management

Stop and look around, people want to do a great job but are hampered by processes, policies and some senior managers.

I worked at Simplyhealth full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people. There are lots of skilled, professional and hard working people. The culture is generally one to be proud of albeit it depends what area you work in. The reward system was very generous when I was there. A refurbishment of the 4 offices is taking place and the refurbed areas look smart. The company gives generously to charity.

    Cons

Poor leadership at the highest levels. The Senior management team live in a bubble, wasting time and money on failed, short lived initiatives that they never really get behind themselves and never seem to be held accountable for. It’s the most top heavy company I’ve ever worked for, supposedly to manage a business unit structure. But this has caused silos and therefore political infighting, a general lack of direction,...

    Advice to Management

Change the leadership structure of the business and make it more accountable. Employ leaders that can truly understand how to engage staff, lead people and communicate. You have all the resources you need already. They just need to be led effectively. The fundamental restructure just over 2 years ago was not implemented properly, failed and is being slowly undone without actually admitting it failed. Everyone knows...

I have been working at Simplyhealth full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Simplyhealth has all the tools for being a great company to work for, which include some good employee benefits, open mindedness for flexible working, and good opportunities if you are in the right department.

    Cons

The direction and aims still feel muddled, and it thinks it is a commercial company when it really operates like a charity (and not in a good way). Progression opportunities in many areas are quite limited.

    Advice to Management

Recognise the potential in your teams and encourage them to develop to their maximum - help them find their own brilliance. If you don't, they will leave. Any many are planning on doing so...

I have been working at Simplyhealth full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Many nice people work across the company, just a shame that this attribute doesn't filter upwards throughout the business

    Cons

*Despite a supposed 'reward and recognition' culture, executive leaders fail to recognise 'everyday' talent and commitment *People are a commodity *Every month a new round of redundancies is announced (under the guise of 'transformation') Low staff morale Low staff engagement Self-interested management

    Advice to Management

Not worth the effort, the only views that matter are those held at the top of the business

    Pros

Benefits package is excellent, management are flexible with your work life balance and you are given chances to make a difference

    Cons

Sometimes they aren't the quickest to change. Once something doesn't seem to work rather than stopping and moving on they linger and continue development/investment.

    Advice to Management

Keep trying to make changes for the benefit of not just the customers, but your staff too. Don't hold back - if its not right change it and change it quickly.

    Pros

The people are friendly and welcoming They genuinely care about their employees They do a lot for charity and the local community

    Cons

There are some pockets of low morale and complacency due to unclear direction, poor communication from top to bottom and across different business units & therefore things are slow to get done
