I have been working at Sky Betting & Gaming full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

One of the best things about working at SBG is the culture; it is very laid back with casual dress, flexible working hours and we are very social. The flexible working hours mean my work/life balance is better than it has ever been by far as it allows me to avoid a longer commute at rush hour. I love how social the business is too - we have regular social events as a team and also have bigger company-wide events like...

    Cons

There really aren't many downsides to working at SBG, although sometimes it feels like tech employees get preferential treatment over non-techies! For example the extra benefits they are entitled to.

    Advice to Management

Don't change much! Be aware of preserving our culture as we continue to grow and ensure everyone is treated fairly.

I worked at Sky Betting & Gaming full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    * Arguably one of the most relaxed places I have worked in terms of working culture. * Great set of benefits. * Tribe culture means teams are empowered within their own teams to deliver without much corporate red tape. * Agile pedigree, lots of teams operating in different ways and more is being done to share that working * Work hard, play hard mentality with some great annual events * Lots of leadership will take...

    Cons

    * Techies are treated like children that need to be pandered too the amount of money squirrelled away to allow techs to do what they want with tech instead of delivering valuable product is on the rise. There is a very unhealthy culture of tech having a say so with some pretty negative and non pragmatic people in senior roles. * Recent exodus of very well respected leaders that got SBG to where it was and unclear expectations...

    Advice to Management

    * Just because someone is good at a tech role does not make them a leader, all too often you see strong techies without the skills needed to manage people and has led to several people I know leaving or moving in the business. Make sure those people are being supported to be good people managers (ideally before putting them in those positions) * Clearer direction needs to be given, emphasis on the word clear, lots is...

I have been working at Sky Betting & Gaming full-time

    Pros

SBG is a young vibrant company where ideas are valued. The benefits are great and despite last year's TSG takeover, SBG has managed to maintain an open and enjoyable work environment.

    Cons

Since TSG took over the mood in the office has definitely changed, which is to be expected. Being a publicly owned company, coupled with the increasing regulatory requirements is making it a more pressured place to work.

I worked at Sky Betting & Gaming

    Pros

Benefit are great, although they are starting to dwindle due to overspending and the Stars Group takeover Great location in Leeds Some great people about

    Cons

Promotions seem to be based on length of service rather than skillset. This means that there are a lot of senior level staff who haven't got a clue what they are doing in terms of line management. There is a 'lad culture' that makes it a hard place to work sometimes if you're not 'one of the boys'. Tech staff seem to be treated like they are special, and as a result it means that rude, ignorant, and unfair behaviour...

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting people into roles that they aren't ready for. Start listening to the feedback you're getting about whether it's a good place to work.

I have been working at Sky Betting & Gaming full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some great people work here Decent benefits

    Cons

Graduates treated like children with their feedback ignored. Told most important part of the job is to be 'brand ambassadors' or to positively advertise the company - people who do this get rewarded. Higher ups don't care about the employees and reward people they are friends with rather than those who deserve it.

    Advice to Management

Try and care more about the people who do the actual work and make the company money. Stop allowing people in high positions to employ their friends even if they are not competent at the job they are given

I have been working at Sky Betting & Gaming full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nice perks. Nice benefits - free sky amd nice fruit in office. Nice facilities. Flexible working. Some good learning resources available. Bonuses could be good (that may or may not have stopped now) It can be a fun office at times with interesting things going on.

    Cons

The company really, really cares about their staff. But not all of them. It is a bit like a micro class sysyem. If you are a developer or a software engineer then you will be treated brilliantly. If you are a call centre agent or admin staff they know they can replace you easily and it shows. Some staff get shiny new laptops others get ones that barely work depending on job they do. It can be a little disconcerting...
