I have been working at Softcat full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - great management team who aim to grow your career and give plenty of new opportunities - everyone is happy to support you growing within your role, you are never left to fend for yourself - opportunity to move across different roles to suit your personality & needs - big emphasis on 'building your own career' at Softcat - great buzz around the office, every day there is something exciting going on - extra benefits such as health insurance, travel to work scheme, perklife - flexible working from home options

    Cons

    - you need to ask for pay rises and push for these, which can be done by going above your job role and proving what you can do. - requires a good bit of travelling to and from meetings and to other offices depending on your role which some may not like, i see this as a positive to get out of the office but can be tiring.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us, it is disappointing to hear you feel this way as this is definitely not the experience we want our employees to have. We're really proud of the culture. If you would be open to it, I would be interested to understand a little more about your experience so we can address the concerns raised. I have been working at Softcat full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The opportunity for personal growth and success is seemingly boundless. The culture and people are brilliant, so even on hard days you will enjoy where you work. Within a sales-based role, the job gives you immense experience within the first few years, both internally & externally through exposure to other UK businesses e.g. your customers. Getting to work closely with outside organisations through the role gives great insight into how other companies work, so is great exposure for personal development. Also the longer you go on the bigger and more complex the organisations you work with become, and therefore this type of experience can really set you up for success in your career. There is a lot of opportunity for progression such as management, up until a certain stage. Company on the whole is also going from strength to strength so it's gone from a brilliant place to work, to also one of the best and biggest partners in the market.

    Cons

Base salary is low in sales, particularly for management positions, however you know this going on due to the opportunity within the role.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We appreciate that a lot of what we do aligns to Sales as we are a sales business and it's the core of what we do, however we are constantly reviewing things like incentives to make them more inclusive to those sitting outside of the sales departments, as well as constantly thinking about ways to recognise great performance and alignment to values for everyone across the business, to ensure we showing our commitment to our employees, whatever department. Thanks Rachel Cowell

I worked at Softcat full-time for less than a year

    Pros

the people who worked in none management roles

    Cons

Dealing with or rather being subjected to your truly horrendous, insulting, condescending and chaotic HR team (senior members leading the way), was a horrible and an unnecessary experience. One person I spoke with on the recruitment team was lovely. Clearly the anomaly however. It's not the 90's anymore, your sales techniques are out-dated and could be so much more refined and more effective. Wolf of Wall Street wasn't a 'how to guide' FYI. The 'fat cat, started from the bottom and now I'm filthy rich! You could be just like me' narrative constantly regurgitated just reeks of desperation, particularly from the more senior member of the management team. The ladsladslads, BANTAAAA culture that's also always rammed in your face is just hideous. You use that work hard play hard rhetoric as spin and justification for pushing such ridiculous and unmanageable work schedules. Same goes for the rigid school like rules on work wear. Even when client facing you're meeting people who work in the modern day IT world. Stop treating employees like babies or robots, buyers appreciate authenticity and a bit individualism. Have a quick look at the average salaries for similar roles you offer, even the grads deserve WAY more than what you offer. Free cereal is nice but you can't pay your rent with it.

Hello, Your review is disappointing to read and I am sorry that you have this perspective. I don't believe that your views are widely held as indicated by employee survey's and the people awards received including #5 UK Best Workplaces awarded last week. We continue to focus on our employees and put people at the heart of our decision making ensuring that our people practices support our employees. Regards, Patricia Winter, HR Director - interim.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, and wish you every success in your future role. We appreciate that Sales isn't for everyone and there is definitely a requirement at the start to build up your business from scratch and to have that determination and resilience to get to a point where you have your customer base built up to trade with. We're really transparent with new starters about the fact it can be tough at the start, but keeping motivated and driven to succeed can definitely lead to exciting and great things Thanks Rachel Cowell

I worked at Softcat full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Exposure to lots of vendors & good onboarding program to teach the basics of IT.

    Cons

It’s nothing more than a call centre and they can only recruit graduates and apprentices because the pay is so low. Merit is awarded based on quantity over quality. If you stay the longest hours in the office you’ll be rewarded with better accounts. Due to over hiring it sometimes takes 6 months to have the opportunity to phone a larger businesses. If you took a sick day in your first 6 months you used to have to take it as holiday. Pretty sure they had to remove this as it wasn’t legal, but that gives you an idea of their expectations.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback about your time here at Softcat, though it is disappointing to hear that you felt it was a negative experience. We are transparent around the roles that we hire so prospective candidates appreciate the work that is involved to build your own account base, which at times can be tough, especially to start with. We do feel things have moved on alot since the point you made on the sickness days, as this was changed a few years ago. Overall we're really pleased and confident that we're making the right choices and steps to make Softcat and inclusive and enjoyable place to work, it's just sad to hear you didn't feel this way when you worked for us. If you would like to chat further about this, do get in touch on rachelco@softcat.com and I would be more than happy to speak Thanks Rachel Cowell
