I have been working at Square full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Open, transparent, low ego work environment. Genuine passion and purpose from basically everyone I've interacted with. Smart, scrappy, committed leadership.

      Cons

We're working on a lot and at times can lose focus.

    • "Good place to work but lots of politics"

      StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CA

I have been working at Square full-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

Great perks, hard problems, mostly strong colleague

        Cons

Politics can make getting work done unpleasant and difficult. Seems worst at Jack's leadership level.

        I worked at Square full-time

        Pros

-Co-workers -Benefits (meals, PTO, RSUs) -Company events -HQ working space -Great work life balance (but depends drastically on team)

        Cons

-Mid-level managers can create a toxic environment: playing favorites, inexperienced, lack of interest, no communication -HR doesn't practice what they preach -Constant re-structuring due to poor hiring choices -No clear career path -Low base salary/raises

        Advice to Management

Hiring process for mid-level managers needs drastic improvements. Team members need to be involved in the hiring process, not just upper-level managers since it's the team members who will be spending every day with the manager, and also know the position/role best.

I have been working at Square full-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

        - Growth, Growth, Growth - RSU packages are extremely valuable (4.2X stock growth over 24 months!) - Benefits are nice (unlimited vacation, WFH etc.) - Still a lot of unsolved hard engineering challenges - Strong engineering culture - A mission (economic empowerment) that's worth fighting for - Positive impact on businesses

        Cons

        - major innovation is getting harder to get to. Case in point introducing something like Square Cash it's challenging now due to inter-dependencies on other teams - certain internal departments are not as strong as engineering - while high level of decentralization is good, lack of strong mandate makes it difficult to push for larger changes
