I have been working at St. James's Place Wealth Management full-time for more than a year

    Pros

St James's Place is a fantastic place to work if you are looking for a smart, professional and entrepreneurial environment to grow your career. The company has managed to retain a family atmosphere even though it has experienced record growth over the last few years which is something most companies struggle to maintain. The company also prides itself on its smart image which is very much reflected in how the Employees...

There is limited free parking on site but if you arrive early enough this isn't a problem and all parking charges are reimbursed.

I worked at St. James's Place Wealth Management full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Great boss and staff benefits

    Cons

Really bad management. Didn't listen to a word I said in my 121 which pushed me to hand in my notice.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees or you will lose good staff.

I have been working at St. James's Place Wealth Management full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Huge amount of knowledge, infrastructure and e-learning to increase your client facing knowledge, prestige firm, unlimited earning potential if you have the right network to support it. Pays to be self reliant and highly motivated.

    Cons

Poor support in the early stages. The mentor system is a joke - most senior advisors volunteer to do this because they receive a £4000 bonus if the junior advisor meets year 1 target, but the actual mentoring is non-existent. I was largely left to fend for myself and learn an FCA accredited role completely on my own via trial and error. Admin is a farce - you will use hundreds and hundreds of pounds of printer ink in...

    Advice to Management

Would be nice if management would cascade new advice enquiries to your junior wealth managers and offer orphan clients to new advisors rather than focusing on new advisors tapping into their friends and family network to becoming wealth clients. SJP are very eager to stress the importance of your network but offer zero by way of qualified lead support. This places untold stress on new advisors and forces them into often...

I have been working at St. James's Place Wealth Management full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Dynamic organisation, still growing rapidly so lots of opportunities. Posh Christmas Parties and Company events, if that's your thing!

    Cons

Outdated culture with little understanding of equality and diversity. 20+ years behind most other FTSE 100 companies in this respect. Inflexible working arrangements make it hard for anyone with childcare/caring responsibilities to get on in the company. Chronic under investment in Head Office IT systems and Head Office staff in general, who are less valued than those in the field. Poor wages in comparison with other...

    Advice to Management

Value Head Office staff and pay better wages, so that you can recruit people of the right calibre. Invest properly in Training and Development, in particular professional courses. If you promise extra resource, please deliver it, rather than working your existing staff into the ground.
