I have been working at Strategy&

    Pros

Some good people, some interesting work, well paid, lots of grads to join with, learn some things, sometimes you get to leave early in the first year or so

    Cons

Very long hours, overworked, short projects in Deals Strategy, lots of Due Diligence, lacks culture of caring for one another, not sustainable, all the managers are leaving

    Advice to Management

Work on team culture, make people feel valued, chill out on the hours

I worked at Strategy& full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You get a fancy name on your CV and a bunch of friends to share your misery with. You can have decent exit opportunities unless you want to exit consulting.

    Cons

Work is very repetitive and not family friendly - especially when doing due diligence. You have a steep learning for 6 months and then nothing, except heavy workload. Engagement managers are told to do everything (managing projects, finding projects, mentor team members). VIPs in the organisation have unfortunately created a hostile environment and never had a reality check with HR for their management style.... It goes from negative comments on dress code to clear threats that you will not be staffed unless you agree with partners' direction/project content. Coming out of MBA where debates and respect among students were mandatory, I got shocked by a sheep mentality and a certain bully culture that was tolerated in the firm. HR could not provide any help, "it has always been this way, and current partners learned it from previous partners" was their only response. The limited recruitment pool in London (MBA & Oxbridge) is certainly not helping.

    Advice to Management

You will be disrupted like the legal industry. If you want to continue, you need to stop pushing billing per hour and start focus on technology. But that requires questioning.

I worked at Strategy& full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, generally good overall culture. If you are proactive, you can learn a lot across a wide range of industries.

    Cons

Long hours for below market rate. Strategy& leadership don't understand analytics and don't value it.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees, no pay rises for your "High performing" employees is a sure fire way to Lose a good proportion of your staff. All the other strategy houses are working like crazy to build analytics teams. Strategy& had one when they arrived and are happy to watch (and help push) their team away.
