High Stress, Empty Promises, and A Hazy Outlook

Pros

You work with a wide range of technologies in a wide range of environments. This gives you tons of exposure over other employers. Most of the people you work with want to help you learn and act as a team. The days are never mundane, each day could be wildly different. Historically, we have done lots of charity events, outings, and team building events. We also run a ping pong tournament. Snacks and beverages are provided.

Cons

Not much room for growth. Pay is below industry standards for the region. The management want's you to study and take certifications, which will benefit the company, but in the same breath, they are "not interested in paper warriors". Rather than paying for training, they want you to learn from your coworkers. Don't expect much in the way of compensation for earning the certifications as well, you need to "prove yourself", then the reward will come. Waiting for the reward to come is a risky proposition as well, as raises were not given this year. Benefits/bonus plans could use some work. There's been a lot of mismanagement and poor decision making from the upper management in the last year, and it's shown in the company's performance. Lots of time spent with "business coaching" and forcing their management strategies on us. A surprising amount of middle management for a company of this size. Swick Technologies stresses culture, but there's a lot of condescension and arrogance from some members of management. It can be a high stress work environment where off hours work is expected of you.

Swick Technologies focuses on IT stability for all of its clients through day to day help desk support and project IT consulting. With a dedicated R&D team, encouragement for continued education and lots of room for you to pursue new technical skillsets - as an employee you are allowed ample room for growth. A large break room filled with healthy snacks, ping pong and darts is available for your mind to take a quick breather. Health and Wellness is encouraged through many different monthly challenges, lunch & learns and exercise classes while at work. Family life is taken seriously and if there is a family emergency or need time to take care of items outside of work – they allow for a flexible schedule. In your day to day, you will have a lot of trust paired with responsibility to handle your own set of client issues / projects. The ability to communicate and speak your mind is also prevalent. Overall, this is a friendly work environment with an ever changing day to day ensuring you will always be open to new opportunities and new types of clients.

Cons

The IT World is forever changing and as a result our focus is consistently moving. This is the nature of an IT Driven business.

Pros

A unique opportunity in the midwest space to work for an IT MSP / consulting organization that is driven by engineering and places stability first on the requirement list of a given design while still maintaining the culture charms and daily autonomy akin to smaller organization. The analysts and engineers are not treated like fungible assets, but are encouraged to develop specializations and interests with internal and external training, testing, and certification covered. Specialization is encouraged, but fundamentals across many areas of the IT landscape are a required to excel. Weaknesses aren't exploited, but are built-up with a culture of knowledge sharing and collaborative effort among the analyst and engineering staff. Work with clients, people, and systems across verticals, backgrounds, and vendors. Hungry or thirsty? Grab something from a stocked kitchen. Need a mental break? The ping pong table has been known to solve many challenges. Want to use more than just your brain? Attend the monthly wellness / workout sessions in the afternoon. This company is doesn't build strong analysts and engineers, it builds strong human beings.

Cons

Brains have been known to hurt after whiteboarding sessions. IT in general comes with its ups and downs. Clients can get frustrated, peers can get upset, mistakes happen at the personal and company level. It is stressful like anywhere else. What is different is that people and the company are encouraged to confront mistakes and weaknesses, have an overwhelmingly positive response, and end up with a positive (or at least neutral) outcome.
