I worked at Symantec full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some great people and technology. Enjoyed the majority of my time there.

    Cons

Don't let the good SEs go when you keep shaking the tree ... ! Too much management bureaucracy and little trust on many occasions to get a good job completed the right way. Veritas/Symantec split was devastating to the skill and perception of Symantec in the market.

    Advice to Management

Customers like to invest in stable and consistent technology and people. Hopefully this can be maintained through the Bluecoat acquisition.

I worked at Symantec full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of products, mixed messaging.

    Cons

A lot of people join and leave within 6 months. Old boys monopoly on targets/accounts need to be broken up. Not a healthy working atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Take a closer look at the UK business/lack of real growth.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good office locations
    Competitive salary and benefits package
Great sense of camaraderie within my specific organisation and quite a few that I worked with

    Cons

Quite easy to get stuck in the same role for over two years
Difficult to negotiate a pay rise when having annual performance review

    Advice to Management

Choosing to replace experienced all Symantec management with Bluecoat's less experienced management will continue to lead to corners being cut - at some point over the next 18 months or so, you will realise that you are ill equipped to deal with many issues that will arise due to this 'start up' mentality and that you cannot offer what you've promised to customers' nor justify it to appropriate GAAP/SEC auditors.

Once you've got over that hurdle, I think that things really will move from strength to strength, but it will take that wake up call before it happens.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Symantec is a very good name, number one IT Security company in the market. I'm 99% of the cases, you do not need to go through an extensive company historical presentation to customer.

    Cons

The internal strategies and politics makes the different sales team offer the same solution to the same territories. The rules of engagement are not well defined or respected which create internal competition.

    Advice to Management

Very controlling management, it feels like management doesn't place much trust in the team members
