I worked at Syngenta full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits and holidays Good support regarding health and wellbeing Opportunities to move to different functions within the company Opportunities to travel and work abroad

    Cons

Treated like a number and not an employee The practice of being promoted internally often comes with no wage or grade increase. This can take a long time to resolve or in some occasions never be resolved. Too much internal politics at senior manager level Lots of change bringing about redundancies of skilled employees

    Advice to Management

The past 2 years Syngenta has lost a lot of employees with a vast amount of business knowledge. This may come back to haunt Syngenta when a major change needs to happen as there will be very few experienced people available to make these changes happen successfully.

I have been working at Syngenta full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There's a great mix of people. The site is very pleasant, surrounded by farmland. The work provides a lot of interesting challenges.

    Cons

The site is not easily accessible, as it's miles away from any amenities. There are difficulties in advancing your career, as the way the system seems to work is having to wait for a space to open up (aka "dead man's shoes"). Not suited to those looking to advance in a career in science - if you're happy to just get on with the job, they will let you. You have to be doing the work of the grade above you (to prove... that you can do it) before you will be promoted. There is not a lot of money working in agrochemical research (pay is at the lower-to mid-end of the salary range)...

I have been working at Syngenta full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great colleagues and facilities. Interesting work in Product Safety with global interactions both from a business and technical perspective. Improving IS support Research now operating better than Development function for first time in 20 years

    Cons

Uncompetitive pay. Product Safety function currently struggling due to combination of good managers leaving and being sidelined combined with mediocre HQ leadership. Unsupported perception by HQ leadership that external recruitment will produce better results than utilising and developing internal staff. Too little opportunity to operate independently.

    Advice to Management

Think about focusing on your own staff more as current approach somewhat demotivating.
