    I worked at T J Morris part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Regular hours (minimum wage)- contract was 12 hours over 3 days but there would frequently be more hours available if you wanted. Opportunity to increase hours during breaks between university (let them know in advance as rota is done 2 weeks before). Assisted in the opening of two new stores (my store included) where I worked overtime 40+ long hours but worth it for the extra money (maybe £450?) Busy but easy work-...

    Cons

Fill shift - the most intensive role as you have customers asking questions (what is this? where is that? etc) which increases the time you empty your cage (which management have set unrealistic targets of 40 mins per cage-and that is for a full cage with lots of small boxes, they would calculate less for half cages or big bulky items- 15/20 mins). Cages were located strategically according to the manager/s (i.e. kitchen...

    Advice to Management

There is so much they could do to improve morale and engagement which would mean lower staff turnover and therefore less hiring costs but they wont because they see it as a waste of an investment as they can easily be replaced. They could targeted perks to their staff- young staff get discounted driving lessons like they do in McDonalds/20-25% of baby items for parents etc but they just wouldn't.

    I worked at T J Morris full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay was weekly and the site is close to road links for drivers. Some of the supervisory staff were nice and attentive - but not enough. There is a cafe on site in the AXIS building that served hot food and was very well priced. The company put on English language classes for colleagues that wished to improve their English.

    Cons

The training was extremely rushed. The trainers were nice but were rushed off their feet and became agitated. Lots of time was spent following them around the warehouse whilst they looked for resources. There was no mentoring and it was a box ticking exercise designed to get trainees to sign as many forms as possible, making them liable for any issues. Newly trained staff were let loose with very little direction...

    Advice to Management

Almost all of your Warehouse Operatives want to leave. Promans Staffing Agency must make a fortune replacing your staff. The guys that don’t want to leave tend not to be your best employees. You’ve created a culture where you keep the worst. Staff feel undervalued and under rewarded. I’m not necessarily talking about pay which is average for the sort of role, but in how they are treated at work. If you do...

    I worked at T J Morris part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management was friendly and helped each new staff member get used to their role and responsibilities.

    Cons

Staff members who did different jobs tended to form into cliques and treat other team members differently.

    I worked at T J Morris

    Pros

Staff were fantastic people to work with Christmas Party paid by the company every year 10% discount on all items Opportunity to progress as Team Leader

    Cons

Certain members of management made work a nightmare sometimes - would talk bad about members of staff, circulate lies. If you were unhappy with anything, area manager would never sort out the issues, would always get ignored or brushed under the carpet 2 members of staff would be expected to tidy the whole store - unrealistic

    Advice to Management

Need to start appreciating your staff more

    Pros

You get paid every Friday - even though you're not paid the right amount sometimes. Pigeons got into the warehouse and brightened up my day as it was something fun to deal with. Nothing funnier than managers chasing round a pigeon!

    Cons

Basically everything. I worked 48 hours in my first week as a 17 year old, but they only recorded me doing 38. This for starters is illegal. My contracted hours are 20, yet I wasn't paid overtime. Again, its illegal. Very negative atmosphere in the workplace, everybody there was grumpy and it drags you down. Morning shifts are supposed to be 4 hours long starting at 8am, but you never know what time you're going to finish...
