I worked at TASER (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great products and name recognition.

    Cons

Highly political environment focused at Harvard grads in the LDP program

    Advice to Management

There are many people who did not attend Harvard who have good ideas too.

I worked at TASER full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity if you are hard working, ambitious and like working in technology.

    Cons

The only way you will experience growth is if you are connected to an executive in the company or you are a white male.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone didn't go to an Ivy league school does not mean they are not capable of leading. You might want to start hiring managers and directors based on experience instead of pedigree.

    Pros

Company has good technology and there are some really great people.

    Cons

Middle Management is clueless and nepotism is rampant.

    Advice to Management

Find competent managers who aren't focused on taking care of their friends.

I have been working at TASER full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

TASER is changing the technological landscape in public safety. What was once a company with a single flagship product is now a fast-growing, software-driven company with a platform of innovative technologies. There is no shortage of projects to work on, and the people you get to work on them with are top of the line.

    Cons

The massive change in momentum has brought some turmoil, including the majority of the company having been around for <2 years. This feels more significant in a 20 year old company than it does in a startup, and the change of pace can be a bit much for some people.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on the people, the product, and the mission.

    Pros

it's a fantastic place to work
    awesome culture
    belief in a life-saving product
    innovative startup culture
    unlimited PTO

    Cons

too much focus on flashy things rather than substance
a small percentage of execs have a bad idea of work-life balance (they don't have families and they expect others to act the same)

    Advice to Management

    trust your employees more.

I have been working at TASER full-time

    Pros

    1. Mission of the company is " Save Lives and Protect Truth". It is great knowing everyday that what you are doing is making actual difference in people's lives.

    2. Getting to work with some incredibly smart people

    3. Fun events like Halloween and Annual Holiday Party
    4. Lunch and Learn events
    5. Getting to watch people 'Tased'
    6. Appreciates employees who contributes towards savings

    Cons

    1. Dismal work life balance:- Taser tries to operate like a startup where reality is that it's not! This is a 500+ employee company and needs to realign its business strategy to reflect that

    2. Talented but inexperienced upper management:- Many of the top management is very young and even though there are very smart, it has to be realized that no amount of smartness can replace for actual experience. Decision driven by this inexperience is often a cause of confusion and unnecessary complications for employees down the chain

    Advice to Management

1.Empower employees to make decisions :- Please empower employees to make business decisions. This would make employees more engaged and let senior executives concentrate on more important things.

I have been working at TASER full-time

    Pros

Excellent mission that is good for society. Interesting technical problems for engineers. Good pay. Leaders have passion to improve company and create awesome products. Leaders exhibit concern that employees have a life outside work - but also know how to work hard too.

    Cons

Communication between teams and locations sometimes challenging. Career growth good at junior levels, bad in others. Overall career growth seems unimportant to execs. It is one aspect of culture rarely, if ever, addressed by management (excepting the "Leadership Development Program", which is for new hires, not existing employees.)

    Advice to Management

There are some great people feeling held back and marginalized at TASER.

I worked at TASER full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company makes products that save lives.
CEO Rick Smith is a down to earth, approachable and passionate in what he's doing.
Most people there are nice and easy to work with.
Nice work environment if you work in the front office.
    Company is financially sound.
    Car pool is provided.

    Cons

    Salary-Salary-Salary!!!

Pay is very low for production employees and most employees are temps with very little chance to become permanent. Starting pay for temp is $9.50 per hour and stay at $9.50 forever until becoming permanent.

Low pay also means low quality, low morale and high turnover. TASER has a big challenge retaining skilled workers.

Pay for salary people is not great either and starting salary is lower than industry standard average. It's hard to attract and retain talents if pay is not right.

Mid level management runs the company but it is weak and full of politics.

Working environment for production people is bad, the place is very noisy but no ear protection provided. Smoking area is next to employee entrance and so you practically smoke 10 hours a day even you don't want to.

    Advice to Management

Forget Wall Street and do what is right for the employees.
    Fix your mid level management.
