Thank you for taking the time to share feedback on your experience at TOMS. We’re proud to keep Giving at the center of everything that we do. We appreciate your thoughts regarding leadership and decision-making, as well as strategies to connect consumers with the larger impact. A key element of our culture is an upheld tenet of making kindness in the workplace standard, and that means leading with compassion rather than with ego. Because of this, I’d love to invite you to share any specific feedback regarding your experience, and help us better understand our opportunities to strengthen our team and our culture. Thank you for being a member of the TOMS family and we wish you the best of luck as you continue along your career journey.

I worked at TOMS full-time for more than a year

    Pros

TOMS has a plethora of perks. Wonderful office environment, a VERY disarming leadership team, the "one-for-one" mantra, solid benefits and a flex work policy. If you're just starting your career, or looking to develop yourself in an entrepreneurial, problem-solving environment, TOMS is a perfect match. Expect a solid amount of autonomy and encouragement from your peers and superiors. During my time there, I found my Supply Chain superiors to be exceptional - especially the current VP of Distribution, Logistics and Supply Chain Planning. Was an honor to work for/with them all. Additionally, the former CEO, was an exceptional, caring human being. He will be missed dearly.

    Cons

Honestly, not a lot of bad here; growing pains and a catty work environment. If it's one piece of advice I'd give, remain focused on your work, goals and the company mission. Stay out of the day-to-day office melodrama and, as odd as it may seem/sound, limit your work friendships. Remaining objective will be your sanity and well-being's saving-grace.

I have been working at TOMS

    Pros

From the moment I interviewed at TOMS I knew what an incredible company and family this organization was. Following a rapid interview process and coming onboard, I was taken through an extensive and excellent onboarding/training program. It is evident that the leadership team is strategic and intentional about their decisions, which trickles down to every level of the organization. They are led by a phenomenal CEO, who is extremely personable and passionate about the brand. My interactions thus far with colleagues have been remarkeably positive - with most hungry to mentor and learn from one another. This organization truly values their employees both on a professional and personal level.

    Cons

No cons to share at the moment.

    I worked at TOMS

    Pros

TOMS is truly a special place to work. Amazing people, beautiful office, and great work/life balance. The company cares about their employees and everyone there seems to really enjoy their job and the people around them. And, TOMS is truly driven by its culture of giving back, leaving employees with the motivation and desire to continue helping the company grow. TOMS' new leadership team is made up of such an impressive collection of people. They are committed to constant improvement and encourage employees to take on important and impactful projects. I love the direction that this company is moving in and I see so many great opportunities for professional development and career growth.

    Cons

Employees that have been with TOMS the longest seem somewhat uncertain about the changes being made. However, as someone who arrived during the transition and did not have those previous biases, I thought the changes being made were necessary and showed the company’s dedication to improvement. As I said before, I love the direction TOMS is moving in and I am very confident that they have the right people in place for the future

    Pros

The mission is the best part of working at TOMS

    Cons

even though the mission is great the motivation is still profit and doing more with less and less people. Leadership is too disconnected and continue to fire the best people while keeping the so-so or cheaper labor. Although Jim has been a great addition to TOMS, the rest of the leadership team leaves a lot to be desired, especially in Technology.

I worked at TOMS for less than a year

    Pros

-Great people. As you'd expect at a mission-driven organization, employees at TOMS are dedicated and a pleasure to work with. -Awesome mission. TOMS is doing business for the right reasons, and people are constantly talking about the positive impact the organization is having and how it can be stretched further. -Sharp leadership team. The C-suite has a wealth of experience and a great perspective on the business and how to grow it. -Bain Capital has brought a heightened level of analytical rigor, which I view as a huge positive. This will help keep the company moving in the right direction. -Interns have awesome access to leadership and a good deal of visibility

    Cons

-As with many younger companies, TOMS lacks some of the resources/systems to work efficiently. As an intern, I viewed this as an exciting challenge rather than a frustrating situation. There's lots of low-hanging fruit, and TOMS is a great place to make a difference quickly!

I have been working at TOMS full-time

    Pros

TOMS is a unique place where by coming to work, you are changing the lives of children and people across the world. The newly formed and aligned leadership team is best-in-class and clearly at TOMS because they want to be and want to make a difference. With the current structure, the work is challenging, people are stretched and have new opportunities to expand their focus, and all the while we are working with a great team of people.

    Cons

TOMS is a 10 year old company, and like any new company it has taken some time to align on the go-forward strategy. With that said, the current 5-year plan is very clear, the new leadership team is committed to achieving the plan, communicating the plan, and celebrating key wins along the way. It's a tough road ahead, but any growing and changing business has similar challenges. We're still lucky to be a part of this organization.

I have been working at TOMS full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

TOMS is still very much a startup while being a mid size company. Both of those have very different implications. In one way we are still nimble and able to move quickly where needed. But, thanks to Bain and new leadership we have a lot of processes being added that are creating a much more efficient and effective business. If you enjoy a challenge and want to learn to grow as a professional, this is a great place with opportunities to do that if you are willing to put in the effort on your own. If you want an easy job where you can sit back, collect a paycheck, and have an inflated title this is not the place for you. TOMS is 100% giving One for One with all of our products which is our commitment to all. And, there are so many ways we are improving lives beyond that, through our employment opportunities, friendly work environment and perks, last mile budget (which makes sure we are not a financial burden to our giving partners), local manufacturing, and so many other ways that you can only fully experience by working here. Our leadership team is 95% full and stronger than any leadership team we have had in the past. And, our employees are committed to our mission and want to make the world a better place. I have had ups and downs here, but it has and continues to be a wonderful ride that I am incredibly grateful for. I have never been more excited than I am right now for where TOMS is headed.

    Cons

There have been a lot of big transitions in the company in the last 2 years with people leaving and new leaders being added. This tends to create a lot of uncertainty, fear, and concern with your career path. We have lost some great people, but we have also gained some great people. These things just take longer than you would hope for sometimes.

I worked at TOMS full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are pockets of caring, hardworking people. Free shoes, casual work environment, and free barista are pretty neat. The company does all that it claims to (and more) in terms of giving, and it's an amazing feeling to be a part of that.

    Cons

This organization is very poorly managed, from top to bottom. The relationship with Bain is confusing and everyone at the top is really overthinking things (i.e. organizing and reorganizing the company over and over). The original founder pulls rank on every decision, but he has zero business acumen, and is hardly ever around. The new CEO seems aggravated/frustrated and has completely unrealistic expectations for the way forward. Over the past six months nearly then entire leadership team has been wiped out, seemingly with little strategy for their replacement, with the exception of the head of HR (hmmm…). Decisions are made based on relationships, gut feelings, etc. while anyone who brings forward strategic well thought out plans are people who 'over think things,' or 'aren't very TOMSY.' (yes, that is actually a phrase people use at this company). For being a company that gives so much back, the lack of humility I experienced was staggering. Many people in leadership think the world of themselves and their team, as if someone should be so lucky to work their- its obscene and very tiresome. Benefits are downright terrible - you could probably buy better health benefits on the open market. The work-life balance is the worst I've ever experienced in my life. In just one year's time with the company I was never able to take a week's vacation and for the days off I tried to take, I was constantly called and emailed all day long for 'emergencies' Everyone is overworked, but for what? What is everyone working towards? There are no organizational goals or individual performance plans set each year, so how should employees know what they're working to achieve? On this note, how are bonuses decided on? Oh wait, that's right, those who are liked the most get the biggest bonus. Aside from all these things, the absolutely worst feeling was the childish nature of the environment and the constant bullying. There is a constant feeling of sabotage in the air, and I felt as though I never knew when I might turn around to find a knife in my back – it was an awful feeling, truly felt like being in junior high school again.
