I worked at Teach First full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Agile working was useful, childcare options were a top focus

    Cons

Staff working on the ground are overstretched and left to deal with poor decisions from senior management, who often seem to have no idea what their sector entails. High staff turnover as a result, unhappy workers and zero career progression - the same people always get top roles to cover maternity leave.

I worked at Teach First full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - An organisation doing very important work, strong sense of purpose - Flexible working - Good salary for a charity

    Cons

    - Management very hit and miss, with more misses than hits: a lot of people been promoted into management roles without the proper skills, training or support to be good managers - Severe basic procedural issues, eg being cut off from suppliers because invoices were going unpaid (not, as far as I'm aware, from lack of money but from disorganisation and poor understanding of processes); senior management took a long time to address this and similar issues in other departments - Inter-departmental politics: often felt like individuals and departments were at odds with each other, despite working for the same organisation - High staff turnover and low morale in some teams
