I worked at Tesco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are lovely and talented. There is generally a lot of respect and friendship here and I made strong fiends and enjoyed my time with these people. Very good work life balance .

    Cons

A limitless capacity for waste: spending months designing products that never get launched, setting up hugely expensive and elaborate training programs or team days that have zero impact, making people shuttle back and forth between farringdon and Welwyn garden city, having multiple bloated teams with overlapping work streams. Extreme risk aversion means a lack of innovation to try new things. Extreme hierarchy means directors swan around among people do little jobs and side projects for them and get their own meeting rooms which generally sit empty whilst everyone else tries to find a place to have a meeting. Some decisions about team structure and my job title and function were decided about 3 or 4 levels above me, presumably by someone who does not understand my job. Shocking. Constant restructuring because it seems like nobody has evaluated the best way to work and then stuck to it. The staff IT support is practically non existent and the office technology is second to everywhere else I've ever worked. Good luck trying to book a meeting room, print a document, or acquire some piece of hardware or software. There are dozens of internal sites with multiple different logins so even booking annual leave for example is difficult. Benefits are pretty non existent. Just 10% off shopping. Not even a season ticket loan.

    Pros

Within marketing, there is great flexibility, great people to work with and a nice bright environment

    Cons

Salary is considered average when being promoted internally Lage corporation has several layers of approvals to go through, and can sometimes be time consuming

I worked at Tesco full-time for less than a year

    Pros

London office is very nice in terms of facilities. Some of the perks are pretty handy.

    Cons

Huge changes in the business meant that priorities were unclear and a lot of infighting between teams was going on to get control over certain technology functions. Lots of 'career' people not willing to change in Welwyn. Product Managers were not empowered to own their products due to the political infighting.
