Most boring job in the world

      Pros

Good pay for what you do. Regular pay rises. Guaranteed breaks. Overtime usually available (except in summer holidays). Hourly rate does not differ by age. Ability to just work during holidays for students or transfer between stores in term time and holidays.

      Cons

Picking is so boring and repetitive. Managers are so anal about pick rates, the time you take your break, uniform and generally make it unpleasant to work there. Not limiting customer numbers during Covid, so the shop is heaving and unsafe for staff and customers. Poor communication from managers (we changed from working 4am to 6am and they only put a note on the wall so some poor people turned up at 4am). Managers always begging you to do overtime. Early starts (6am usually, was 4am during some of the pandemic and at Christmas). Don't know what time you will finish - can be over an hour late (and we are blamed for picking too slowly not because they don't have enough staff). Unfriendly atmosphere in bigger stores. No opportunities for career progression as the supervisors and managers never leave so nothing better paid opens up. Just feels like the company only cares about profits.
