I have been working at Thames Valley Police full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with the most professional people with high integrity and ethics, serving the public and enjoying going to work knowing that what I do - although indirectly is of great support to operational officers.

    Cons

Difficult to comment as there are not many --- my post is very different to others in as much that I have a support role to a specialist department and I am able to manage my own workload and priorities within reason.

    Advice to Management

From my perspective, everything looks good and I am very happy ---- I can appreciate the concerns of others who might not like some of the changes which are happening. BUT life evolves !!!

I worked at Thames Valley Police full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Some of the staff
    Free car park
    Salary
    Sadly very few pros

    Cons

Lack of induction and ongoing training
    Exceptionally negative environment
    Unprofessional staff and management
    Lack of management
    Systems and equipment
    Hotdesking when in offices
    Staff treated unfairly and badly
Very high turn over with staff
    Poor recruitment process
    Inconsistencies throughout

    Advice to Management

Absolutely no point adding any advice as the management do not appreciate their staff and colleagues, they don't listen to them or take anything on board to improve the environment or working conditions, nothing changes and they don't want it to. I don't know why companies bother advertising values, mission statements or codes of ethics as it's all BS and people get away with the opposite.

    Pros

    Plenty of different opportunities
    Variety of policing challenges
Some very committed and dedicated staff

    Cons

National budget cuts across most public services have required rapid change in policing which is hard to manage effectively in such a large organisation

    Advice to Management

The aspiration for all 'service deliverers' at Constable level to train to degree level whilst in the service, if not before, is questionable. Some highly esteemed commercial companies have started to move away from such restrictions
