I worked at The Body Shop part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I loved my experience working as a customer consultant at The Body Shop. I learned so much about skin care. This is a really good company with great values.

    Cons

As a part time customer consultant, I didn't get too many hours, however, that is totally understandable.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep store managers at the same store. I had to work with at least 3-4 different store managers and everyone had different rules.

I worked at The Body Shop part-time for less than a year

    Pros

-The products are amazing! - The ingredients of the products are great and the core values of the company make you proud to work there. -The discount was gooooooood!

    Cons

-Just another shady money hungry corporation. -Strict rules -Was forced to pressure sell everyone that walked into the store, yet gained no commission or real rewards from it. -Daily sales goals were ridiculous and you were often shamed for not making your goal. -LOTS AND LOTS of morning and nightly paperwork, all relating to sales goals. -Almost everyone who works there is a " part-time assistant manager"....

    Advice to Management

If you feel you have to manipulate your customers into buying your products, then you don't have faith in your products or the company you work for. Stop making employees sick with stress because they can't meet your outrageous sales goals and start offering rewards for hard work and more career advancements for employees.

I worked at The Body Shop part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Both managers I worked under were very good with scheduling me around my other employment. It also was never hard to get days scheduled off if I asked for them. My co-workers were a joy to work with but that obviously could change drastically from store to store.

    Cons

For a company that's new slogan is "Enrich Not Exploit," they're a long way from hitting that mark on the front lines in their stores. In short: low pay, no full time unless you're management, little room for advancement, you don't get your first review (and opportunity for a raise) for a year, high sale targets with no compensation or reward for meeting targets, constant supervision and coaching, strict dress code (which...

    Advice to Management

For a company that can't stop telling the world about how good they are, they have tons of room to step up their game. First and foremost, pay a living wage. Your employees are highly skilled and should be compensated as such. With the astronomical amount your customers pay for your green tea infused bath salts and tea tree oil, I'm sure you can afford it. Their dress code also sorely needs to be updated- especially when...

I worked at The Body Shop part-time for less than a year

    Pros

good discount, staff incentives. Staff is very welcoming, not very cliquey which is nice, easy to learn, easy to connect with customers, good strong training, fun atmosphere.

    Cons

owned by l'oreal something I am not comfortable with, not very many hours to go around, part time means you work several 3 hour shifts to make up for a 17 hour work week, you are working 5 days a week, but working very little hours.Hard to have a good work life balance, schedule changes without the knowledge of the employees, communication not the best, very high expectations on sales and promos

    Advice to Management

better communication amongst management, and to the sales associates, more maturity (most people in management acted very immature and did not carry their own weight)

I worked at The Body Shop

    Pros

pretty stores, product that you can stand behind

    Cons

Hard to find staff that will work part time hours including your management team. Often the only one in the store. You are required to come up with events to be held outside of normal hours a minimum of once a month with little to no incentive for the customers to attend. Lease lining is ridiculous--required but also keeps the customer from coming into the store because of the "hawking". Very low wages and increase of...

I worked at The Body Shop for less than a year

    Pros

After your trial period ends you get 5 pieces of makeup (women) or skincare (men) to take home. While there are no real bonus opportunities (except for store managers) there are often sales contests that can result in getting to take home a free product. Additionally, when a new product or line launches you are often given a product (or one form the line) to take home, though over the past few years these opportunities...

    Cons

The company does not seem to be doing particularly well. There is a holiday sales contest every year but it is incredibly hard to qualify and many stores will not have qualifying sales. Women are also required to wear five visible pieces of makeup typically lip, cheek and multiple eye colors. If you are not wearing the five pieces or if your manager does not thing your makeup is heavy enough you will be asked to put more...

I worked at The Body Shop part-time

    Pros

I've worked for the company for a little over five years. I was hired as a sales associate and from the get go was trained on their ideals and beliefs. In the beginning I was with mangers who genuinely cared about their jobs and the products. When I was promoted, things changed.

    Cons

First off, I was severely underpaid... like severely. If I was working actual part time hours (unlike the 40 hours I worked every week) maybe I would be a less bitter. They treated me like I was a full time employee but I never received the benefits of one. Day after day I received little to no direction from upper management but still given the expectation that things would get done the way they wanted. The corporate...

I worked at The Body Shop for more than a year

    Pros

    - amazing discount on products - free exclusive samples - not hard to sell these products because they are actually excellent products - brand values are inspiring - great team that I worked with

    Cons

    - not much room for growth - upper management - part time = unreliable hours set - too much pressure to meet goals and not based on commission pay, therefore rewards and benefits did not compensate for the hard work

    Advice to Management

    Value your customer consultants more!!
