I have been working at The Body Shop part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great job if you work only seasonally, part-time - An okay discount

    Cons

    - Pay is very poor, you will make minimum wage the entire time you work there. I have been working with the same store for almost two years and the only thing I have received is a plastic company pin - no raise, no bonus - High expectations for low rewards. Even part-time employees are expected to have extensive knowledge and are expected to meet sales goals and objective. This is despite the fact that there is no commission, no rewards for accomplishments, and no opportunity for growth in the company. - Management prefers to hire externally as opposed to promote internally. I have seen many great employees be told they would be promoted only to find out later that management hired an outside employee instead.

I have been working at The Body Shop part-time

    Pros

50% off products for full and part time, 25% off for casuals. Pays above award wages. Great team (usually)

    Cons

No commission, but very sales focused. Managers will push you to cross sell, link sell, up sell and the rest. General retail annoyances. Constant stock issues with alot of products being unavailailable for months.

I worked at The Body Shop part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I was initially drawn to the Body Shop's five founding values (which I later learned were not as prominent in practices after L'Oreal took over). I really loved my sales team, I had the best store manager, lots of responsibility and great opportunity for growth. Great Experience in a manger role for me and the company really likes to hire from within.

    Cons

I always worked weekends and crazy holiday hours but that's part of what comes with working in retail. Also, I felt the pay for part-time employees was significantly low ESPECIALLY for managers, given all of our responsibilities and expectations. Was not happy when I found out about the ridiculously toxic ingredients I was selling to my clients. That's pretty much why I left -- had a nice experience otherwise.

I worked at The Body Shop part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I loved my experience working as a customer consultant at The Body Shop. I learned so much about skin care. This is a really good company with great values.

    Cons

As a part time customer consultant, I didn't get too many hours, however, that is totally understandable.

I worked at The Body Shop part-time for less than a year

    Pros

-The products are amazing! - The ingredients of the products are great and the core values of the company make you proud to work there. -The discount was gooooooood!

    Cons

-Just another shady money hungry corporation. -Strict rules -Was forced to pressure sell everyone that walked into the store, yet gained no commission or real rewards from it. -Daily sales goals were ridiculous and you were often shamed for not making your goal. -LOTS AND LOTS of morning and nightly paperwork, all relating to sales goals. -Almost everyone who works there is a " part-time assistant manager". Which comes with ZERO benefits. ZERO reward for pressure selling people into products. A bunch of paperwork and the responsibility to close and open the store. While, the manager reaps the rewards with their yearly bonus and company benefits... =No advancement in the company. No raises.

I worked at The Body Shop part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Both managers I worked under were very good with scheduling me around my other employment. It also was never hard to get days scheduled off if I asked for them. My co-workers were a joy to work with but that obviously could change drastically from store to store.

    Cons

For a company that's new slogan is "Enrich Not Exploit," they're a long way from hitting that mark on the front lines in their stores. In short: low pay, no full time unless you're management, little room for advancement, you don't get your first review (and opportunity for a raise) for a year, high sale targets with no compensation or reward for meeting targets, constant supervision and coaching, strict dress code (which includes at least five pieces of face makeup you have to buy from them, no more than two earrings one of which has to be a post, no facial piercings, and no capris, shorts, etc.), you're expected to apply makeup like a professional with no training, and finally you do get a deal on product but customers can regularly get the same discount on many of the items. The long:I worked for a private owner before they sold their store to corporate which first led to my pay being cut. I was offered a tad above minimum wage and then told it was "generous" since most of their employees start off at minimum. I later found out our provinces minimum wage is being raised to what they generously offered me later on this year, the kind souls. This happened after I quit, but still reinforced my positive decision to leave. The work I don't mind even though I'm not totally hip on their products (there are many better and cleaner options out there!) and I'll happily work for minimum if I love boss and am treated fairly but this place takes the cake for taking advantage of the kindness of others and heaping expectations and extra work on people without compensation. Save yourself if you're looking for a part time job and apply somewhere local that will appreciate you.
