  1. "Upper management isn't great. Floor supervisors and co-workers were the only positive"

I worked at The Museum of Sex part-time for less than a year

    Pros

If you want an unconventional workplace this definitely fits the bill. It requires you to be open minded. The floor supervisors and employees had a good rapport with one another. The discount we get from the retail is pretty nice.

    Cons

The pay isn't great especially dealing with all of the rude and often perverted customers. Sometimes people wouldn't get kicked out even if they were making the employees uncomfortable. Upper management didn't care about us, they only cared about money. The owner is rude and upper management just makes excuses for him.

I worked at The Museum of Sex part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - The people that work there bond quickly because the work is such a unique experience, coworkers feel like friends - Stimulating for a retail environment, interesting and often meaningful interactions with customers

    Cons

    - Poor management boundaries, typical "we're a family" retail environment used to exploit peoples emotions and time - Museum itself fosters immaturity & doesn't do in terms of training to make workers feel comfortable when people are being rude/asking invasive questions - Will have workers push products they know are not the best and even bad just to make money - Pay for a job that takes knowledge and skill is not great at best

I have been working at The Museum of Sex part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Stable hours and stable schedule every week with opportunities to pick up hours. Weekly paid. The staff here are nice and cool, no cliques.

    Cons

Sometimes, the customers don't give you respect because they think this is not a museum. Museum of Sex is a museum. It's not a strip club or a sex store.

I worked at The Museum of Sex full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Although working in the shop is indeed retail, it's a very abstract and fun environment thanks to the eclectic staff and interesting customers.

    Cons

There is no true structure, direction or appreciation for the employees at this company. No matter how well you perform, you're efforts are still worthless. And don't you dare demand any respect!

I worked at The Museum of Sex full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fun people to work with when they aren't talking behind your back, like children. Great customers who ask great questions and make selling the products fun.

    Cons

Gossip town, Im pretty sure there is some ethics issues as well as bullying. Questionable HR personnel not sure if they are in touch with current laws. If your not looking to go too far in your career and want to see hoe not to run a business this is surly the place for you!!

I worked at The Museum of Sex full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You can trust few people, not plenty and that is okay. They are flexible with hours and relaxing environment to work in as you get the hang of what you do. Everyone is "nice".

    Cons

Too many office politics and talking behind each other's backs. CEO will not hear you out and only trusts certain people he shouldn't trust. People who have been there for a long time don't get as much pay/credit/benefits as the new employees. CEO changes his mind VERY quickly and doesn't appreciate the work you do. He expects you to do it NOW, NOW, NOW and finish in the next five minutes after he explains the project. If you dont finish, he gets frustrated.
