I have been working at The Very Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Shop Direct values their people and they show this in numerous ways. This can be through the facilities they provide so colleagues have chance to get away from work and actually have a gym to go to, 5* restaurant or just an area to chill. Love their stance on communication and they try to engage with all colleagues at all levels. People make the place as their are so many people who are fantastic to work with. This goes back to Shop Direct Values and culture they drive which works for me and is rare to find.

    Cons

Challenging and complex business to understand. Due to the age of the business there is baggage, but along with this comes learnings to improve the companies future.

    Advice to Management

Challenging but in a positive way.

I worked at The Very Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nothing, it's all fake. Some of the people are nice, but no one in power who can change anything

    Cons

Honestly the treatment of long serving staff is just abysmal. It's difficult to break down into bullet points how many terrible things I've seen since starting, but a good summary would be "all that glitters ain't gold". They're very clever at hiding how terrible it is for staff who actually work there, in order to being new poor saps in.

    Advice to Management

Be real. Step up. Grow a pair.

I have been working at The Very Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

On site gym at head office, reasonable campus with free parking.

    Cons

Different managers create different workplaces/environments/cultures; all under the one roof. Luck of the draw! Subtle bullying rife, expectation to work unpaid such as through lunch and after work; not on the odd occasion but all the time. Unfair pressure is also commonplace especially after staff numbers cut again; managers dont discuss what tasks can be discarded or how tasks are managed, they expect it all to be done with a smile on your face.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking about values all the time; live them and set a good example. This will cascade downwards. Please stop this school / church like culture; employees and managers falsely smile and go along with it. It wastes time. Be fair when it comes to bonus payments; senior managers get 15 to 25% of very big salaries whilst the lower graded staff get as little as 0.75% of a low salary. Find out what colleagues really think; not by online surveys where peopl fear the are not anonymous.
