I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A great bunch of incredibly bright and talented guys and girls who work hard to please their customers
A variety of interesting projects to work on

    Cons

Little respect is given by the management team to junior colleagues
A fairly negative working atmosphere exists from employees who feel they are powerless to influence or suggest improvements

    Advice to Management

Break down the old fashioned chain of command structure and give staff authority to make decisions.
Treat everyone equally and don't have 'Favourites' who receive preferential treatment

I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good, smart people. Reasonable amount of diversity in terms of interesting projects. Reasonable amount (not too much, not too little) of freedom to choose topics you might be able to focus on.

    Cons

Slow advancement through the ranks. Seemingly inequitable distribution of profits/performance bonuses. Used to not care about work/life balance but that seems to be improving now.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent and clear in setting goals for career advancement and performance bonuses.

I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -High Profile Projects
    -High Caliber Colleagues
-Management cares about developing younger employees, treats younger employees with respect
-Generally drama free, very professional, focus is on problem solving not blame spotting
    -Vast technical resources
-Company parties are actually pretty fun
    -Good benefits

    Cons

    - Dissatisfaction with stress, hours, pay is rampant.
    - Dismal industry outlook; constant refrain of "low fees high expectations" and longing for "the good old days"
    - Low pay compared to other engineering disciplines
    - Brutal deadlines
    - Promotions seem based mostly on tenure
    - Company culture expects you to "go the extra mile" despite no real reward for doing so
    - Bonuses are too small to be meaningful, not tied to any performance objectives

    Advice to Management

I would advise structural engineering students to find a better paying field.

Management is fighting an uphill battle. Keep in mind your young engineers are all top of their class, from top schools, with graduate degrees, with friends in other engineering fields. They all trade stories about how their friends make way more money. The young engineers talk a lot about this.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good ambiance in the office and good people,
    - Some of the best projects possible
    - Colleagues are some of the best in the business

    Cons

    - Lack of diversity, both racially and background (education). Hiring only concentrates on certain universities and programs.
    - Long hours are expected at all levels.
    - Mid and upper management complaining is allowed to thrive.

    Advice to Management

Encourage constructive criticism instead of continued gossip. Start considering candidates from diverse backgrounds and universities. Stop fostering a culture of fatiguing work load. Lip service is given to culture, values, and work/life balance, but it is not apparent on the ground.
