I worked at Towergate Insurance full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people on the floor actually doing the work are great and is one of the only reasons people stay. Location is great but that will soon change too!

    Cons

Senior Leaders are clueless. Countless GFC’s (think we’ve seen 6 in last 5 years!) come in, try to change everything don’t listen to the people actually doing the work it all goes wrong and you end up back how you were doing things previously! It’s like ground hog day!

    Advice to Management

For someone to go in and make an actual difference they need to spend some time actually ‘doing’ so they fully understand what goes on in finance and how to effectively change it.

    Pros

Great people Lots being done to fix the IT and structure

    Cons

All the work being done to fix the structure leads to changes in priority and ideology

    Advice to Management

Try to be more consistent in direction of travel with staff.

I worked at Towergate Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a hundreds of absolutely dedicated people working there who do the best they can in their jobs, despite the obstacles that management put in their way. It's like they don't understand that they deserve better from their employer.

    Cons

Management are argumentative, disorganised, misguided and dillusional. They have a grand plan for what the company will look like 3-5 years down the line, most of which is entirely fictional, but won't tell anyone how they plan to get there and can't or won't support their staff with handling the day to day challenges which are causing the stress in the here and now. If you want to watch the management team celebrate prematurely about an amazing 'idea' they have had while you are working long hours, failing to achieve unreasonable targets and struggling to stay upbeat for the sake of your team and everyone around you, go and work for Towergate!

    Advice to Management

Start rewarding the good people you have and reeping the benefits of their existing knowledge to achieve what you want to achieve. Too many good people have walked out the doors of Towergate breathing a sigh of relief and it really is the company's loss much more than it is theirs. All people need is some clear direction and prioritisation from the management of their area; with all areas on the same page trying to work towards a common goal. Simply saying 'Right everyone, lets increase profit by 100% ... off you go!' is not enough and is the reason why Towergate will never achieve its goals in future if this poor management technique is allowed to continue. Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound - go back to basics and engage with the people you have left while you still can.

I have been working at Towergate Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Strong new leadership team bringing positive change. Should be plenty of opportunity going forward and plenty of tangible positive changes have taken place in the last year or so. Simple things like improved vacation days, better benefits, good coffee machines, improving or moving offices etc etc.

    Cons

Still very much in the "we're fixing the fundamentals" stage. A lot of the things you expect to work seamlessly do not and you have to be flexible. The plethora of totally barmy job titles and lack of standardised job levels makes it very confusing.

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you've been doing over the past 12 months and don't forget about your non sales staff (training / engagement / opportunities to grow and develop).
