  1. "Okay company to work for."

I have been working at Towergate Insurance

    Pros

Paid on time, pro active approach towards restructuring. Promotion opportunities.

    Cons

Lots of lazy dead wood in some of the teams. In times where employment is hard to come by I have never worked in a place where staff put so little effort into their work. My manager for example spends half their day gossiping and sending/receiving personal emails, texts and calls rather than getting on with their job. Communication from senior managers could be better.

I have been working at Towergate Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They've recently invested in new systems and phones.

    Cons

Senior Management are abysmal. Been here for 3 years and seen no one promoted from 'within', I have received nil to minimal training, the staff 'appraisals' are a waste of time. My team leader is a bully. I know of at least 4 members of staff leaving due to this person and the senior management are oblivious as they never care to see what is going on.

    I worked at Towergate Insurance

    Pros

The people at the bottom work incredibly hard under a lot of pressure and really work together as a team.

    Cons

Senior Management are only interested in themselves, no room for progression, you will never be listened to and if what you have suggested is good they will take credit for it.

I have been working at Towergate Insurance

    Pros

The staff on the front end do their best to offer a good service, and they do seem to want to help, the issue is whether they can actually help, but the good intent usually seem like it does not translate to getting the service you need delivered.

    Cons

Feedback is not taken up by senior management as a tool for self improvement. Negative feedback that may be received is seen as combative and brushed off as irrelevant.

I have been working at Towergate Insurance for more than a year

    Pros

Paid on time 26 days holiday

    Cons

Salary much less (£5-10k) than market rate. Staff turnover is ridiculous - most people leave within 1 year, and company is known as a revolving door. Severe restrictions on when you can take leave each month. Very poor work-life balance - expected that you work extra hours unpaid HR is non-existent. The only time you meet them is when you're up for redundancy. No induction training when you join. You're just expected to know already. Legal minimum (1%) employer contributions to pension No proper training given - you are just told to teach yourself using their online PowerPoints IT infrastructure is just dreadful and causes far too many delays Senior managers don't care about you unless you're making sales. Overlooked for internal progression so many times even if you are qualified. Unrealistic monthly deadlines only getting shorter, and senior managers pushing them simply do not listen when you raise serious issues.

"Stressful, Stagnant and Stale. A FISH ROTS FROM THE HEAD DOWN."

I worked at Towergate Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great colleagues (great bonds form as you deal with the insanity daily). Very accessible location, lots of great places to eat at lunch. Paid on time (excluding over time, pay is dependent on memory and there is no guarantee the amount will be right, not a COMMON problem but occurs too often). There are people (inc a handful of management- maybe a few fingers), who really are trying to make the best out of a bad situation. Quite frankly it is still experience on your CV to GET OUT & work for a better company.

    Cons

Shocking staff turnover (including management). A company where improvement suggestions are branded as 'being negative'. YET THEY EXPECT GROWTH? (honestly ludicrous). Negative is the buzz word for Leadership. Reply 'negative' to suggestions and do nothing to improve but expect things to some how function effectively? It is as if they become offended when you identify a flaw and offer some solutions. Get the job done, doesn't matter if you do it right or wrong. Just do it so we can say you've done it. No concept of quality hence the endless... Well look at the complaints statistics they speak for themselves. Inability to recognise talent. It doesn't matter if you have a clue what you are doing as long as you can say how high quick enough. Talent to them is who is the most audible yes man not who has the right skills to push the company ahead. There is being a team player and then there is just being ignorant to the problems around you because you don't want to upset senior management. It is so telling; when not a single member of the management team across ALL departments can inspire anyone (the inspirational individuals saw sense and jumped ship). With these leaders there is NO wow factor, just narcissistic individuals endlessly on a power trip; they are not courteous or polite (not all but the majority). How can you manage without people skills nor relevant experience in your line of work?! (The fish rots from the head down). When you observe the way leaders conduct themselves you know as long as you aren't emulating those traits you are on the right track (backbiting openly, gathering to have quick gossip sessions, revealing confidential information about individuals, just uncouth and unfortunately really nothing positive). It is no surprise the company is where it is. Last but not least the pay does not match the expectations (which changes depending on the direction the wind blows). Work requirements change but the salary remains the same. Look at the same roles in the job market. Is dissatisfaction amongst employees really surprising? All in all the theory is good but the execution is oh so poor!

I have been working at Towergate Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Will support you financially through CII qualifications, lovely colleagues & middle management do seem to actually care about you.

    Cons

Senior management do not give a toss, you are just a number. Bad business strategy, the SBU and Finance changes should not have been done at the same time, and certainly not before we had a universal IT system. Trying to centralise business and people when we work on 100+ IT platforms is a ridiculous notion. The change team are the only happy people in this company. No incentive schemes for account handlers/claims handlers (Towergate took our old incentive scheme which was paid quarterly in January 2014 without telling us we wouldn't be getting anything until July 2014, this is absolutely unacceptable.
