I worked at Transact full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good salary, central location near tube/trains.

    Cons

Since the IPO, the culture of innovation, collaboration, personal progression, passion and knowledge sharing has been replaced by one of hierarchy, fiefdoms, and just keeping the investors, auditors and bean-counters happy. Management prefer to take the least risky path rather than listen to ideas from their workers. Knowledge, experience and enthusiasm are not respected. The attitude has changed from "figure out how...

    Advice to Management

Encourage independent thinking and listen to the staff at the coalface, rather than dismissing them out of hand. Take more risks rather than following a misguided concept of "everyone else in finance does X/Y/Z". Look at the roots of the company and what made it so successful in the first place instead of snoozing on the pile of trophies.

    Pros

Varied role with opportunity for progression Benefits and Bonus good Striving to offer the best service compared to competitors

    Cons

Candidates already earmarked for internally advertised job roles Easy to be overlooked by senior management due to operations team size

    Advice to Management

Have a more open approach when hiring internal, access all candidates applying and not just those who you’d looked at before offering the role

I have been working at Transact full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Interview process was very straightforward and quick. Applied for the job on a Tuesday and had a formal job offer by Friday. Was made to feel very comfortable by recruitment team throughout. - Induction Process. Everyone at Transact is assigned a 'buddy' when they join, who helps them to get up to speed with the daily tasks. You progress at a good speed without ever feeling like a rabbit in the headlights. - Not much to say here. Work can vary from day to day, some days are very manic whilst some days there's not a lot to do but that's the nature of the industry.

    Advice to Management

Keep up what you're doing! The company culture/lack of any hierarchy was a pleasant surprise when I joined and definitely a big part of Transact's success in my opinion.

I worked at Transact full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Fantastic people, both staff and managers. - Well-made, own systems that are constantly adapting and improving. - Diverse and interesting market exposure.

    Cons

Salaries are apx 30% lower than all comparable Financial Services firms in the area. This means that all the best staff are constantly poached by rivals, leading to a massive BRAIN DRAIN. (This is sadly why I had to go).

    Advice to Management

Review your remuneration policy, in order to: 1) Retain more of the talent you have, by slowing staff turnover rates. 2) Reduce the need to keep employing costly recruitment agents.

I have been working at Transact full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Good training & steep initial learning-curve. A good place to gain a high-level understanding of UK intermediaries. - Reasonable remuneration for operations role although they'll take their pound of flesh & competition pay more. - Great office in prime location. - Strong industry reputation which looks good on CV. - Good systems.

    Cons

    - Highly stressed, negative and frankly unwell workforce. Two of my immediate colleagues were signed off for long-term stress during my time in the business. Management will happily pressure staff into this situation and then unapologetically manage them out once they reach it. I resigned long before this happened to me. - Learning fully curve plateaus after 1 year. - Middle management are patronising, anti-intellectual,...

    Advice to Management

Great business model but comes at the expense of young, ambitious people. You will continue haemorrhaging the talent you attract unless you improve the working environment for those joining in industry.
