Pros
- Fantastic young, flexible culture to really help you develop (especially coming from a large financial organisation where I was previously) - Fast-paced, quick moving environment which keeps you on your feet with plenty to do. - Lots of opportunity to travel (within reason), which coming from an organisation which used to have travel bans, is so refreshing. - Great opportunity make an impact to actual... customers. The customer is always the mission - and this focus never changes. You feel like you can actually transform a product to help customers. - Really good environment to work in. The office is great, people are super friendly and Friday lunch + drinks in London is great.
Show MoreCons
- Very young culture (perhaps if you are older - you may struggle to fit in culturally) - If you like structure, and process - this place isn't for you - No real clarity on career development. Not a deal breaker if you are new, but if you are the type of person who likes to have a long term career plan mapped out, you may struggle.
Advice to Management
More clarity needed around career development. Ensure we keep growing fast whilst keeping things fun.

Pros
Excellent product, solving a real problem. Tight focus on delivering positive customer impact, with autonomous teams able to work out what their goals and projects will be. The work/life balance is good, with flexibility to work how you need to.
Cons
Autonomous teams have led to a fragmented product experience as new offerings have been added. Management feel uncomfortable about stepping in to forcibly course-correct teams, worrying it will affect the perception of the culture. Salaries and benefits are 20% lower than market (especially for engineers).
Advice to Management
Salaries need to be aligned to actual market conditions. Stock options are far less, as the potential multiplier on value over next 4-5 years is far less than it was even two or three years ago.

Pros
Product is really good and with a clear value to customers. People is very honest. Great colleagues. Opportunity to have an impact in whatever you want, it's up to you to decide where your responsibilities end. Most of the projects are challenging and fun. You and your team will prioritise and decide what to do each quarter. Very team oriented, lot of amazing people.
Cons
- Salaries for Software Engineers are bellow average for a Fintech; value added by the engineering work deserves a better compensation. - Not for you if you just want somebody to tell you what to do/build

Pros
- As a recent joiner I found the interview process and clear and communicative. - So far I've had freedom and responsibility to shape the role how I feel most effective - Coming from a corporate background the speed at which you can have direct impact without layers of hierarchy and approvals is great
Cons
Coming from a corporate background can be quite a culture shock, not waiting for someone to tell you what to do can be a challenge at first.

Pros
At TransferWise you are given the opportunity to forge your own path, use your initiative and challenge ideas of others. Expect your ideas and decisions to be dissected but always in a constructive way. There is a huge opportunity to learn from the best across many different fields.
Cons
The culture here of autonomy and, some might say, politics can be difficult for some people. Convincing others to buy in to your ideas as they try to push their own can be a challenge. In the end the work produced is of top quality but sometimes you end up discussing what to do for longer than you should.
Advice to Management
Formalise the roles and expectations of leads, and help them balance these against their day job. Streamline some HR processes to make everyone's lives easier. Don't let the culture we have slip!
