I have been working at TransferWise full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great culture and working environment, incredibly smart people to work with and learn from. Support to develop and grow, numerous opportunities to take initiative. Very strong mission that is more just buzzwords.

    Cons

Due to how fast the company is growing, there are issues with lack of available free (permanent) desks and meeting rooms. Cross-team efforts are not so easy to coordinate as all teams are autonomous.

I have been working at TransferWise full-time for more than a year

    Pros

TL;DR This is still a good company to work for, but don't just go with the hype or believe these reviews. They are a reflection of what TransferWise does best: indoctrination. If you have a similar offer from somewhere else you should definitely consider it. Other upsides: - Freedom - People can have a say (comes with a price) - It's a quite transparent company everyone is always been told what's going on -...

    Cons

Hyper growth is challenging. When you have a company with over a thousand people too much freedom can lead to chaos. Also, the fact that autonomy is one of the core values of the company has turned teams quite selfish about their own goals. Cross team collaboration is almost impossible. It's so hard that ends up discouraging people from seeking to fix or do any task that involves other teams. It's like living in...

Hire more experienced people. When you get this big you need more than youth.

I have been working at TransferWise full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Fair compensation - I'm not sure if this is a pro or a con. They will give you a fair compensation based on your market, however, you will definitely get better offers from other companies. Challenging work - TransferWise is growing and with that comes scaling problems. You will learn a lot about how scaling should be or should not be done.

    Cons

Autonomous Teams - Somehow this is a little bit of pro, although in TransferWise's case teams are so autonomous that it affects cross-team communication very badly. Teams will move fast without even considering how it will affect other teams. Politics - Even though, from the outside, it seems TransferWise is a startup, I would say that it is not and there's a lot of "politicking"...

I have been working at TransferWise full-time

    Pros

Incredible flexibility and trust in me making the right decisions. Great colleagues.

    Cons

Cross-team communication is a real challenge in this company of over 1500 people with flat hierachy. I often find out quite late when other teams work on something that affects my work and customer groups.

I have been working at TransferWise full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Organisational structure. Freedom of define your own way to success - You do what has the biggest impact towards making the financial system more fair and transparent. No-one tells you what to do. + surrounded by one of the smartest people in the world. + steepest learning curve I've ever had.

    Cons

Cross-team communication can be a challenge with autonomous teams.. That's mitigated by employing super outgoing and friendly (entrepreneurial) people ;) I have had 0 problems so far.

I have been working at TransferWise full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

TW has an incredible office (very Google-like) with awesome colleagues. Many company events -- two large company outings per year. Plenty of room for growth and no boundaries with wanting to take initiative. Leadership is competent, understanding, and approachable. Free coffee. The work is varied and interesting with plenty of side-projects to take on. Happy and friendly customers. The product is honest so there's no...

    Cons

The work can get intense and burn-outs can come quick if you're not careful. Sometimes you get so into your work you need to be reminded to take a proper lunch break. Salaries are a bit too low and yearly raises are not guaranteed (I think a base for a yearly raise should be established). Not necessarily a con, rather a point of improvement, but cross-team communication can be...

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring the right people; keep promoting leaders, not managers; try to maintain the culture we have now as we continue to grow; and consider increasing wages and implementing a base for yearly raises to keep consistent with inflation; and keep moving Onwards!
