I have been working at Travelers full-time

    Pros

    - good pay and benefits/pension - seem to have good momentum for positive change - new IT leadership additions are paving the way for badly needed direction - company seems committed to change - flexible work arrangements

    Cons

    - decision making is very slow and is by committee - business direction on projects constantly change - hopefully new leadership will drive change

    Advice to Management

    - stay committed to change - continue to seek improvement and drive a positive culture - decision making needs to be faster - continue with flexible work arrangements (e.g. ability to work from home when needed).

I have been working at Travelers full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are more reasons to work at Travelers than I can list here (it would be a book). The company and its leaders are compassionate and always demonstrating this day to day, they walk the walk. Now we have evolved to a new level of driving innovation across the place that makes it an even greater place to work. Recently I participated in an Innovation Jam (aka InJam) for the first time. The InJam has been happening...

    Cons

Right now we are experiencing a ton of change and it can be tiring at times so if you like constant change or you want to contribute to significant transformation then this may be for you or not.

    Advice to Management

Continue listening, eliminate the "elite leadership" and grow the servant leadership mentality more broadly

    Pros

Good salary, minimal supervision, nice people, great benefits.

    Cons

A lot of the work is menial. Cube farm with little face to face interaction. Little opportunity for growth.

    Pros

Brand recognition, large agency plant, some good people

Laid off large number of good people, too much rate disruption which upsets agents.

I have been working at Travelers full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Travelers is a really good place to work. The managers really care and put a lot of time into personal development. Many employees move on to other roles within the company. Work from home and "dress for your day" are very convenient perks. The PTO offering is good plus there is the ability to purchase more days. Generous 401K match. Top talent are rewarded with raises and growth opportunities. Company is making a conscious...

    Cons

The company changes are not always beneficial to the employees. Understaffing is common - when teammates leave, their roles are often deemed "not necessary to fill." The workload is heavy and it often feels necessary to work overtime just to stay afloat. Top talent is relied upon too heavily to carry the team and burnout is common. Recent focus on "tracking performance" leads to a lot of time-consuming micromanagement.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic about staffing needs and get ahead of filling positions. When employees and their managers are working OT just to get by, it is seriously detrimental to the work-life balance you claim to value. Finally, with a company that is going through major restructuring, you need to be better at communicating change before employees feel alarmed.

I have been working at Travelers full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I never expected to love an insurance job! Travelers is a positive, supportive culture with competitive pay and benefits. They support your development and advancement, and empower you to do the right thing for your customers. So much so that doing the right thing is known internally as "doing the Travelers thing."

    Cons

Advancement opportunities are earned through hard work, special projects, engagement, and personal development. Employee recognition is part of the culture, but don't expect a promotion for doing the bare minimum.

    Advice to Management

Local recognition means more to employees. No need to fly the senior leadership team into town to scoop ice cream! Local stuff like team lunches at Pig Out mean so much more.
