      Pros

I came from the private sector where it is all about fattening someone's pockets while you work work work. I'll never go back to that. This job is fulfilling because you get to help our nation's hero's. Nothing can compete with this vacation policy, I have more time off than I'll ever use. If you enjoy helping others and not helping your CEO get his 4th vacation home, you'll like this place. Oh and the insurance and retirement are outstanding.

      Cons

It is true about what you hear about Government employees. Just don't fall into that loop and you'll be happy. Don't let other peoples' negativity get you down, because when you look at these Veterans and realize what they went through, the piddly arguing goes out the window.

      Department of Veterans Affairs Employee

Thank you for sharing your experience! It is invaluable to hear directly from VA employees. I agree that the absolute best part of a career at VA is the ability to help our Nation’s Veterans, and I am happy that other personal benefits such as vacation and paid-time-off allow employees to take care of themselves and do the best job possible. Thank you again for your dedication to helping Veterans. - DRS

      Pros

Three months of paid maternity leave with ability to take a fourth month on your own leave. Great benefits. Able to select from various insurances. In my city, it is the highest paid hospital. They pay to further education. Great support. You work your full hours no matter what. You get paid holidays if you’re off and double pay if you work it.

      Cons

Not much learning from medical conditions. Does not feel like a hospital setting given the types of admissions we get. As a Hispanic female, I experience racial slurs/ sexual harassment from older, white men.

      Constant Disability Discrimination

      Pros

      All federal holidays are off.

      Cons

No benefits comparable to literally every other employer. Not even a single snack is free. Pay is terrible. You see constantly notices that management that currently works there or in the past was found by the EEOC to have discriminated against disabled employees. No parking in the facility for employees. Everyone must waste at least 1 hour each day waiting for a chance to get in a bus at a very far away parking lot. They do not pay you for the hour they are literally forcing you to take extra out of your day. They do not even follow health guidelines. They place everyone in the bus clustered almost shoulder to shoulder in the middle of pandemic.

Veterans and most staff wonderful; leadership terrible

      Pros

Amazing resources, fast paced environment, veterans are interesting and wonderful to work with, job feels incredibly meaningful

      Cons

Leadership is frequently corrupt and retaliation is tolerated at all levels (locally and nationally). Contributes to an atmosphere of fear and intimidation in some areas for staff that speak up (depends on your immediate leadership who may or may not buffer this). Endless govt regs and hurdles can be tiresome.
