    Pros

Flexible hours and ability to find funding for pursuing your own research of interest.

    Cons

Low salary for the NOVA area. Very hard to move up despite doing an outstanding job.

"It's a government job, so you know what that means: stable, sometimes interesting work and mediocre pay."

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at US Naval Research Laboratory full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great place to start a career, interesting work, lots of independence, they pay your way through as much school as you can stomach

    Cons

The pay would be tolerable if NRL weren't in DC. You move up steadily, but there's no way to excel (and really know way to sink). Just like any other government job, it's all about seniority and not merit.

    Advice to Management

Pray for changes you're not authorized to make
