I have been working at University College London full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've been working as a research associate for just over a year and have loved my time at UCL. The access I have has a biomedical researcher to the many world class hospitals as well as research facilities is remarkable. I get to work with people from all around the world and is an incredibly intellectually stimulating environment. My colleagues are hardworking professionals and the bosses are very approachable and supportive. I also get the perks of being in central London.

    Cons

The UCL admin can be quite slow at times so you may need to consistently nag them to push things to go through. As the university is scattered a bit throughout a major city, your division/department may feel like a small part of a big machine - though to be fair, the different UCL campuses are well situated and possibly more united geographically than other big city universities.

    Advice to Management

If you could invest in more efficient workflow through the admin team, the rest of the staff would be very grateful. Thanks.

    Pros

Very supportive working environment. We work hard but have lots of fun and the culture is great. Flaxiable with time management.

    Cons

I have good time working in UCL, just think it would be great to have more support for the funding for international conferences.

    Pros

Respected big university. Will look great on your CV, dependent on your research achievements. World leading scientists and friendly relaxed environment.

    Cons

Overcrowded facilities. HR, pension team and other admin stuff are not responsive and also not very supportive, instead of helping you out with issues they create issues.

    Pros

UCL is in the middle of the city. It is a big university with many great research groups. There are great courses available for UCL staff concerning career development etc.

    Cons

It is hard to get to know other people outside from your research group. The hygiene is bad: it's dirty in the offices, the toilets are most of the time blocked and there are mice everywhere. the hy

    Advice to Management

More care about research staff, and especially about the working conditions.

I have been working at University College London full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smart people, good location, world class opportunities, prestige,

    Cons

    low pay, in London...

    Advice to Management

Don't give free reigns to supervisors on PhD students, actually get them to be more accountable for their personal and professional development. One of my colleagues has terrible English and was offered training and was never enforced to take it...

I have been working at University College London full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Impressive range of faculty with eagerness and ability to collaborate. Good frills, for a university (catered meetings, free coffee/tea, good equipment/computers available). Students are knowledgeable. Research money seems to flow more than other universities in the UK.

    Cons

Support staff tend to be slow on their feet, although average for a UK university. Room is at a premium, and many postdoctoral researchers and even lecturers are asked to share offices.

    Advice to Management

More space for human testing :)

I worked at University College London full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stimulating work environment , and colleagues at work were friendly. In charge of your day, at least in the lab I worked - not always the case

    Cons

Inequality still present at the higher positions, less women making it to top positions in comparison to men, with a lot more women at lower levels
