    Negative Outlook

I have been working at University College London full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work/life balance is unbeatable. You can come and go as you please as long as you deliver the results you are expected.

    Cons

Career opportunities are very limited because lecturing positions are unavailable. Hence, your only hope to stay is to jump from grant to grant.

    Advice to Management

I would make sure that the PhD students are paid accordingly to London's cost of life. They are the base of the research culture, and it's hard to produce high quality research when you can't afford comfortable housing.

    Pros

No hassle and little surveillance; trusted to do the job. Friendly managers.

    Cons

Repetitive. Dusty books. Book-shelves in annoying, cramped and and faffy crevices.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that all shelvers leave at the same time...

I worked at University College London full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed my time there, I was flexible in managing my schedules and research project

    Cons

Pros and cons depends on the supervisor/department.

    Advice to Management

£3000 for three years are not enough to pay conferences, fieldwork, research visits etc.

I have been working at University College London full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good stipend for a PhD
    Interesting projects to work with

    Cons

Sink or swim attitude from management
    Stressful work environment
PhD students seen by PIs as a cheap (free) labour

    Advice to Management

PhD and academic career can be much more than publishing papers. This is ofter forgotten by people who run programs.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at University College London full-time

    Pros

Good academic institution in terms of employability

    Cons

Appalling management and support for students
Do not pay PhD students fairly for teaching etc.
Student satisfaction is extremely low and many post doc researchers are also leaving due to poor management and lack of support

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a complete rethink of the current system. Money is being wasted in areas it shouldn't be, while funds for researchers are being cut. Support for academic staff needs to be much better in order for researchers to want to stay on at UCL after PhD/post doc
