    Current Employee - PhD Candidate

I have been working at University College London full-time

    Pros

Being a PhD student at UCL allows you to join an international environment offering high quality research and teaching. This may vary from Department to Department but generally the research experience you can gain and extra curricular activities you have access to as PhD student are pretty great.

    Cons

Bureaucracy sometimes might be really frustrating and work as teaching assistant is really low paid.

I have been working at University College London for more than a year

    Pros

It is refreshing to work at an academic institution which has a publicised opinion on social and political matters. I don't necessarily agree on all points, but discussion is respected and welcomed. The staff benefits system is quite good. It's lovely to work in some of London's iconic buildings. It's not a perfect system but everyone is trying to make it better.

    Cons

UCL is great at opening metaphorical doors for people, but literal doors... not so much. Also, one of the drawbacks of these older buildings is that the plumbing is not fit for purpose.
