    Pros

A career in research is something you either choose to do from the onset or retire to. The research at Birmingham is a comfortable career focussed on pioneering work and cutting edge results.

    Cons

As with any academic career, expect to have to spend a lot of time teaching, even those that don't want to learn! University level research is not a career that is financially rewarding in any real way.

    Advice to Management

To maintain the quality and integrity of degrees, be more picky about which undergraduates you take. Invest in the people who give their lives and careers to the advancement of human knowledge. For these are the life-blood of the University.
