I have been working at University of Edinburgh part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay seems reasonable for sector, excellent benefits. Nice working in a university; surrounded by bright and interested people, cutting edge research. Work is interesting enough. Very flexible with part-time working etc.

    Cons

Had to fight to get this pay level, which I did only when I realised that those around me were earning much more for the same job. Not fair. Office politics are worse than anywhere else I have worked. Good benefits and decent pay mean people get comfortable in their jobs and stay there for a long time...very hard to get promoted because opportunities rarely arise.

    Advice to Management

Prioritise professional development of your employees, provide opportunity for them to take on extra responsibility etc. Treat them fairly and transparently with regard to pay. Make management more accessible; feels very remote.

I worked at University of Edinburgh full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The school of informatics has been ranked the best in the UK. There are noble prize winners in the university. The staff and also people in the city are welcoming. The quality of life is high compared to London.

    Cons

The weather is usually chilly with rare sunshines. Flying from Edinburgh is not as good as flights from London of course.

I have been working at University of Edinburgh full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Blackford Hill. The views. The city of Edinburgh. The great people. The world-leading University.

    Cons

It's often windy and cold. It gets really dark in the winter. The pay is quite top dollar. The academic career poll is very greasy.

    Advice to Management

None really that I haven't already given or been very forth coming with.

    Cons

Not the best guidance, sometimes very confusing and vague.

    Advice to Management

Better supervision and guidance would be accepted.

I worked at University of Edinburgh full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good location and working hours

    Cons

    Low salary
    Lack of career progression
Most of the accademics are more interested in doing "research" than teaching.
    Lack of professional staff.
Job description did not match to the work to be done.

    Advice to Management

If someone open a case, you should investigate and if proceed take actions. Bulling is a serious thing to just sweep it under the carpet specially when this had happened to more than one person.
