I worked at University of Edinburgh full-time (More than 3 years)
Decent pension. Great access to training and software. Potential to collaborate in world-class research projects.
Management from academic staff is minimal. Salary is capped, practically speaking, unless you go down the PhD route.
Advice to Management
Make funding available for departments to retain more technical staff
Flexible work hours and relaxed environment.
Boring technology used to solve oring problems mostly created by bad management. Lot of legacy to support.
It's a very relaxed environment. Generous on holidays and flexi time.
Very loose environment without proper management.
