Great Employer but not much room for progression

Aug 18, 2021 - Project Manager in Glasgow, Scotland

      Pros

Flexible Working hours Generous Annual Leave entitlement Family friendly policies Sick leave entitlement Good pension scheme Learning environment Job security

      Cons

Depending on the department, the working practices can be quite archaic (that's the way we've always done it here). Due to the size of the organization and given most people in high level posts are there for life, there is little opportunity for career progression unless someone retires.

      Pros

Working with competent, enthusiastic and passionate people.

Career progression slow. No incentive to strive for career development, entirely dependent on the good will of direct manager. Progress assessment quality not in line with salary (bonuses do not exist).

      Pros

Benefits for working for a large organisation include access to training, low cost gym membership, library access, stimulating free talks and subsidised adult education courses.

      Cons

Not much obvious career progression for administrators although they are now attempting to set up professional pathways.
