RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI worked at University of Glasgow full-time for more than 5 years
Pros
Exciting and dynamic workplace with great ambition
Cons
Academic science can be a tough job in terms of job security

Flexible working hours, staff was looked out for as much as was possible in the higher education constraints
Cons
Job security depended on external funding, no chance of further progression in career unless external funding was secured - the usual higher education issues. However, internal support was sometimes hindered and external new staff was hired to boost the recurring REF evaluation

RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at University of Glasgow for more than 3 years
Pros
good development opportunities, working on Athena Swan goals
Cons
no job security, experience in your job is supervisor dependent
Pros
The city and people of Glasgow are fabulous. The university gives ample opportunity for collaboration with colleagues both within your department and with other departments. There is a freedom to pursue research where it leads.
Cons
zero-hour contracts offer no benefits or job security. I held a fair number of small (from 2 week to 3 month) contracts over my years there.

RecommendsNeutral OutlookI worked at University of Glasgow for more than 5 years
Pros
Freedom in terms of start/stop hours, private office, good location near Byres Road, benign neglect from management. Relaxed atmosphere in an academic sense. Good pension scheme.
Cons
Little/no job security, no formal skills development, byzantine bureaucracy, entrenched lifers in long-term roles that are resistant to change. Bizarre fascination with Intellectual Property that looks to offload risk to everyone else and capture any profit (direct opposite of what you would hope from a well-funded university!) Very little career progression possible (like most universities).
