I have been working at University of Leicester full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The freedom. If you are motivated and self driven it’s lovely to be your own boss.

    Cons

A lot of freedom to do as you see best. However, professors are too busy to help you with the in-depth technical nature of a project. If you want to do a phd make sure you get a project with a Dr. who is active in research as they will give you much more of their time.

I have been working at University of Leicester full-time

    Pros

PhD life is great. Similar to undergraduate study, only this time you get paid for it. Hours are more flexible than any other job, as is the holiday rota. Also get paid a bit of pocket money for taking seminars for undergraduates

    Cons

Just make sure you really really want to study the subject you are applying to. If you don't, it's a very long three or four years, and it can get very depressing when you are stuck on the same topic, whilst you slowly narrow your skill set. If you think your PhD is leading you to something specific, then great! But don't do it a chance to put off applying to other things!
