I have been working at University of Liverpool full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Interesting work. Nothing else really.

    Cons

Bullying, Intimidation, almost zero training/chance of promotion, inept academic staff and general demoralised atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Technical staff are generally treated as lackeys, often practically teaching labs themselves as the assigned academics don't know how. Bullying in the workplace which continues despite numerous complaints to HR (resulting in almost endless 'final' warnings). Introduce actual real training and staff development. Pension scheme has the potential to collapse.

I have been working at University of Liverpool part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

University has good reputation, attracts very good students and the city is fantastic.

Parts of senior management are not very good, especially in HR.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the teaching and research staff.

I have been working at University of Liverpool full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to interact with visiting academics

    Cons

Poor local management - not interested in career prospects for post docs, exploitative and toxic environment. wasteful with research funding - tenure track researchers routinely guilty of research misconduct and gross misconduct ad embellishment of 'data'.

    Advice to Management

Important to eliminate endemic culture of 'jobs for the boys' and reintroduce merit based career opportunities - you are losing innovative and creative researchers in favour of derivative and reactive research and researchers

I worked at University of Liverpool full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was lucky enough to work in a department where people were genuinely invested in everyone's progress and well-being.

    Cons

The University of Liverpool has one of the worst administrations I've ever experienced in any university. The way they generally treat their employees, and the overall work-ethic and practice towards anything from finance to student services is appalling.

    Advice to Management

Strength of character and patience is needed to work at most departments at the University of Liverpool
