I have been working at University of Liverpool full-time

I have been working at University of Liverpool full-time

    Pros

The general working conditions and benefits at the University are very good relative to many other companies,
Though we are playing catch-up after many years of neglect there has been a transformation of the estate over the past 10 years and there are more infra structure projects underway
The students make the University a vibrant place to work
The location in a great city with great people is an added bonus for staff and students alike

    Cons

General bureaucracy and an interfering, over protective, risk averse approach to HR still hampers innovation and progress. Everything takes too long to progress and there are too many HR admin errors that create waste, and additional work!
Training and development opportunities are generally very good (depending on your role I suspect) but the volume of 'obligatory' online training and the vigour in which we are pursued to get this done is frustrating and time consuming.
Too many unnecessary (and unnecessarily complicated ) forms everyone has to complete for every move they make, even though the systems don't ever seem to hold or produce accurate data in return

    Advice to Management

All senior staff to personally demonstrate the values & ethics set out in the strategy 2026 and more genuine focus on student experience (extra-curricular is equally important) and staff wellbeing to really strengthen the whole University community and underpin the high performance required to compete in the global HE market. Invest more in public realm and update sport & rec facilities and other social spaces for student and staff.
