I have been working at University of North Carolina full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many opportunities for seminars, surrounded my motivated students and researchers. Good benefits for permanent hires. My work space was a beautiful new lab building, open and bright, with good facilities and departmental management/support.

    Cons

Inconvenient (overcrowded for parking, pay to park and ride), low academic salary, culture of weekend and evening work for non-hourly coworkers. Trend to hire temporary for long periods (I worked temp over 2 years before permanent hire and met others in the same situation at orientation).

    Advice to Management

Limit temporary terms. Provide resources for skill and responsibility assessment so that employees can challenge position bands.
