I have been working at University of North Carolina part-time

    Pros

Love the students with whom we are so lucky to work—smart, kind, thoughtful about and dedicated to their work. Though this can continue growing (!), students are from every life background—all economic classes, races and ethnicities, gender presentations and sexualities, religions, immigration statuses, health and dis/ability statuses. All of the above is a true gift in a classroom, as an instructor.

    Cons

Low pay for teaching fellows/contract. Teaching not emphasized in graduate programs—ie meant to be an afterthought (which leads to bad quality education). In other words, the University sets up a system for grad teaching fellows’ quality work to be used for little pay under High pressure.

    Advice to Management

Raise teaching contract pay to humane levels for grad students. Create more professorship and fewer adjunct lines—professors at major universities should not be living in poverty.

Create time, space, and priorities trainings for faculty and grad teaching fellows that leave room for great teaching to occur and be rewarded equally (not stigmatized or dismissed).

I have been working at University of North Carolina full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I am an instructor for an introductory course for statistics. It helps me get prepared for further career life and practice my english speaking.

    Cons

Due to the government funding, the salary for an instructor is only a little bit higher than TA's. However, I need to spend 10 more hours

    Advice to Management

Please balance the salary with the real working hours.

I worked at University of North Carolina full-time

    Pros

The work is rewarding. Opportunities to learn a great deal about intellectual and developmental disabilities.
    Limited supervision.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive. You really need to love doing this job. I loved this job, but there is not much opportunity for pay increase. The work can be tough emotionally and can have lots of paperwork. Limited supervision - this is a pro or con depending on who you are.

    Advice to Management

Opportunity for pay increases or bonuses.
