I worked at University of Warwick full-time

    Pros

Good atmosphere. A great campus and plenty of places to eat and drink. The woods around main campus were great and the walks in the summer and spring time were a treat. The people were intelligent and very good to work with. Training was provided to all staff and there were no real hangups about this. I worked as an analyst in IT and my colleagues were friendly and some of the best people I have worked with.

    Cons

Progression was a real issue for me. There was no real path upwards and I felt there was favouritism towards close friends. I used to drive in from home on the motorway and the roads into Coventry were not great. Also the demand pipeline was not well developed at the time so there would be days where you could potentially be twiddling your thumbs.

    Advice to Management

Have a proper progression and career path for your employees
Look to improve the demand management pipeline.

I have been working at University of Warwick full-time

    Pros

strong willingness of academic staff to collaborate across multiple departments embracing multidisciplinary research and a vibrant research environment.

    Cons

can be a bit bureaucratic through strong central controls. However this flat governance structure and weak faculty model has significant benefits in terms of quick decision making

    Advice to Management

devolve responsibility more to those working in departments - empower people to make decisions, don't be too prescriptive or risk averse
