  3. "Racism and bullying unchallenged by Manager and HR"

    Former Employee - Admissions Assistant

I worked at University of Warwick full-time for less than a year

    Pros

No positives about this place at all!

    Cons

Was hired as the token BAME employee to meet their minimum quota. There is poor representation of BAME employees throughout this Russell Group University. It’s very embarrassing and I will never recommend this place to any potential staff or students. I’d rather send them to Coventry University! There is no progression opportunities whatsoever. From the very first day I was bullied by a lady who took pride in the fact that she worked in the same job for 18 years. It’s very concerning to have worked in a job for that long and not progressed to a more challenging role?! She was very cold and patronising towards me for no reason whatsoever. She tried to trip me up in front of my Manager and tell her I made mistakes without raising it with me. She was the first person I met on my first day and she didn’t as much as crack a smile. Racism at its best. Showing indifference without even speaking to a person. When I raised this with my Manager, no action was taken as she was inexperienced and felt intimidated by her too. HR are not supportive in any way. They all stick together with poor managers. The buildings are outdated and dilapidated. Warwick Business School is where all the money is poured into and it’s very obvious from the big shiny building.

I worked at University of Warwick full-time

    Pros

Good atmosphere. A great campus and plenty of places to eat and drink. The woods around main campus were great and the walks in the summer and spring time were a treat. The people were intelligent and very good to work with. Training was provided to all staff and there were no real hangups about this. I worked as an analyst in IT and my colleagues were friendly and some of the best people I have worked with.

    Cons

Progression was a real issue for me. There was no real path upwards and I felt there was favouritism towards close friends. I used to drive in from home on the motorway and the roads into Coventry were not great. Also the demand pipeline was not well developed at the time so there would be days where you could potentially be twiddling your thumbs.
