I worked at University of the West of England part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Helping build your confidence and self-esteem

    Cons

Not much of negative view. Just that have to plan every session beforehand and write down for submission and also write a reflection after every session.

I have been working at University of the West of England full-time

    Pros

UWE is a benign employer that makes an effort to be nice to employees.

    Cons

Your experience is likely to be very dependent upon the faculty/service you are a member of.

I've found the IT Service to be beurocratic, exceedingly hierarchical (to the point senior managers will NEVER get to know people below a certain grade), and have generally had an unhappy experience. However, people in other services and other jobs have a pretty nice time, I'm told.

Great commitment to staff development and opportunities. Ambitious place to work keen to try and test new ways of working. Clear vision and structure that is well communicated to staff.

    Cons

Location. While there is good access from road and rail there is nothing in the general area (yet, this is developing and growing).

    Pros

It is a Nice campus, with free parking. The salary and working hours are reasonable. Immediate colleagues were great

    Cons

Very hierarchical and a lot of snobbery from certain teaching staff towards support staff. Expected to work events at weekends with no additional compensation

    Advice to Management

Treat all staff as human beings and have the good manners to learn their names, not just make something up

I have been working at University of the West of England full-time

    Pros

Really impressed with the quality of the communication throughout the recruitment process. Had to work on the application to make it relevant for the post to which I was applying, but then I received interview information very quickly and they even rearranged my interview as I happened to be on holiday on the selected date. Once I had accepted I received further information about the University, the department and the benefits. I was also able to upload my photo for the access pass and apply for car parking - both of which were ready on my first day of employment. I started on the 22nd of the month and had a payslip in my first week!

    Cons

Not found any yet - enjoying working in a vibrant atmosphere with students, academics and professional support staff committed to quality of educational experience.

    Advice to Management

Keep improving the facilities on offer to students.
