I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time

    Pros

In sales and business development, Veeco gives the employee plenty of room to be successful.

Veeco does not want to be the next AMAT or Lam, they want to be a successful company to the customers it serves

Very knowledgeable and supportive customer service organization.

    Fiscally responsible

    Cons

Veeco needs to be careful not to grow too fast inorganically

    Pros

"A place for high performing people" is a common statement you hear at Veeco and it is certainly true. A lot is asked from Veeco but also a lot is given. For people seeking their boundaries - Training and mentorship is provided for those who want to contribute more. Company financial background is solid plus being No. one in all important markets served: Thin film, Wet etch etc... - Clearly dominate over various competition.
Culture and compensation are good and professional. If you want to know how far you can go - This is a place to go.

    Cons

Not everyone can stand the speed / take the challenge. With conservative top management - headcount sometimes is lean which can result in increased workload to individuals. This is no place for "nine to five"

    Pros

Ability to work with some very talented people
Managers very supportive and have your back
Work on a daily basis with new and innovative technology
    Strong, team building atmosphere
Very good position in the marketplace
    Competitive compensation structure

    Cons

Typical downsides of working with a public company in terms of quarterly pressure to impress the street

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on building a great organization for the long haul, as well as developing and bringing in more great products to sell to the market

    Pros

I have been working at Veeco full time for approximately one year.

What I like about the Company?

    - Driven Executive Team with a vision to grow the Company significantly Organically and
       Inorganically.
    - Fast moving, dynamic environment.
    - Leading Edge Technology.
    - Super Smart people who are confident but don't come with an Ego.
    - Collaborative Team Environment where everyone just wants to get on and do better.
    - Trust that Management have in Employees.
    - Growth potential and investment into people and infrastructure to enable that growth.

The Veeco environment is really a refreshing place to work in, where decisions are made fast and people are challenged to develop and contribute.

    Cons

What I do not like about the Company?
Veeco is already a leading technology company in the Semiconductor industry and is expanding at a significant rate through organic and Inorganic growth.
Veeco must continue to bring in best talent and improve processes and infrastructure to serve this market at a Best In Class level. There is still plenty of potential to improve.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be ambitious and add to the portfolio to move the needle over next years.
Further invest in people and infrastructure to drive growth.

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

After working in the high tech / capital equipment / semiconductor world for many years, I find Veeco's culture to be a breath of fresh air. The environment is excellent - great executive sales and service leadership, no hidden agendas, clear objectives and a team that is built to drive additional value for both internal and external stakeholders. I can see the Executive Team has spent the last several years strengthening the management bench and fostering a culture of trust while having fun at the same time!

The Senior Management Team communicates well and is not just focused on quartely results but ... growing the company organically and via M&A as well. Enough structure and processes to be held accountable as a publicly-held company, but not too rigid or structured that kills innovation, progress or speed!

The "team" approach at Veeco is great - people looking to make a difference, provide world-class products and differentiated technology without all the baggage of employees constantly worrying about an old-school "CYA" mentality. You can really voice your opinion and make a difference at Veeco.

The company continues to invest, build engineering and spend where needed! Management has right-sized operations and facilities in a thoughtful and respectful manner.

    Cons

It's not Silicon Valley, but is that a con? It's the semiconductor industry but I presume those looking at Veeco already know about the nature of capital equipment and semiconductors!

The management is doing a better-than-above-average job of building businesses that help to weather the segments that are cyclical.

401K and Health Benes are better than average.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep strengthening the management bench, growth through M&A and continued investment in R&D / new products. Streamline financial reporting.

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent work environment. A real "melting pot" of people from both Americas, Asia and Europe, people of both genders and of all ages, from the recently graduate to the "young person of... retirement age" who just won't retire, the company offers a large range of opportunities for many levels of skill and expertise.
Good effort to minimize impact of volatile markets on work force by managing variable costs in design and development (via outside consulting) and in manufacturing (via contract manufacturing).
Pretty good job security, especially for talented individuals with proven skills and expertise. Significant effort by management, even during most critical downturns of a volatile market, to identify alternate options, offer relocation and retrain people in order to keep such talent and skills inside the company.
A very liberal and open approach to work activities in general, allowing everybody to express his or her personal opinion.

    Cons

A tendency towards standardizing creative activities that might perhaps be excessive, with too numerous procedural forms to be followed. Such tendency, although good in theory, could lead quite often to an unnecessary volume of work with no value added.

    Advice to Management

Management should look into analyzing the ratio of successful to less successful projects that follow all the procedural guidelines, versus the same ratio for projects that do not necessarily do so.
Based on such analysis, management should continue to support those procedural activities that are useful and address those that are not by either simplifying them or by completely eliminating them.

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people. Innovative Technologies. Best in class products. High pay, stock options, 401k. Upward mobility in most departments. Large and diverse product line for sales. High growth markets and continued focus on M&A.

    Cons

Company is driven by Wall Street...although this is a pro in many cases with product development and company acquisitions. Health/Dental/Vision benefits are just OK. Industries are volatile and Veeco does fluctuate in staff.

    Advice to Management

Continued focus on diversified markets and product lines to reduced the need for head count fluctuations. Continued focus on product innovation and M&A to grow the business.

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good Technology that is dying due to resignations of all the amazing technology guys.
Good Engineers that are resigning every week due to zero bonus, negative growth (promotions and then demotions due to reorg) and 60+ hours work week.

    Cons

Worst workplace I have ever worked for. This company is full of greedy, arrogant VPs who are continuously lying to senior management regarding market share, product performance, competitive scenario, customer feedback etc. just to keep their job safe. Huge investments and failures with ALD (Freemont Acquisition), Power Electronics, PSP (Horsham Acquisition) are clear example of that clueless-ness of Senior Management and deceitful nature of VPs/ GMs.

Candidates should think 1,000 times before joining this wannabe Semiconductor company in East Coast. In the beginning, It may offer good salary to grab talents from Silicon Valley but then employees get stuck with incompetent management, zero bonus, constant fear of lay offs and negative morale. 3 big lay offs in last 6 months, 30+ resignations in last 3 months and multiple rejected offers are clear example of the ugly situation at Veeco. Read all the reviews on Glassdoor (except fake ones), talk to past employees before joining this company and if you have already joined this deathbed then try to run as fast as you can and as quickly as you can !

    Advice to Management

You are responsible for ruining careers and squashing aspirations. Start being human instead of money machine.
