Oath, as we have been known as, is a sinking boat many cannot wait to get off. Every year is the same cycle of redundancies and $ cost cutting all to continue to make a loss. In the market we are a joke and struggle to deliver sales. Our products are for the most part unsellable, hence our numbers. The positive times of Yahoo have gone. Verizon invested money into the business when they first purchased us but what did that investment return? Our sales teams are stretched to the point that some people are doing three persons jobs (op’s/AM’s) which is so unhealthy for work life balance. The annual layoffs are coming and it’s worrying we cannot seem to get HR right either. There’s was no leadership leaving them to be stretched and burnt out. A bully joins and the only girl in HR who we could talk to is asked to leave. It made no sense and unfair. But bullying is all throughout the company. A very senior woman in the Dublin office is a tyrant. People complain all the time yet nothing is done. People feel fearful to join meetings with her and when complaints are raised they are told ‘it's just the way she is’. The way it seems to work is that if you are friends with people at the top or in the Dublin Office/Irish Mafia you are untouchable. Senior HR have been known to cover allegations of bullying before and I hope instead they start to crack down on these individuals. I want us to win but I don’t see how it is possible with the lack of investment and lack of support we receive. I believe in our local sales leadership but we are worried she may be asked to leave this year too in the redundancy rounds due to numbers. I hope they don't cut our benefits to save costs which is a rumour I've heard.

I have been working at Verizon

    Pros

Free coffee....Free air. Clean toilets. Car parking. Nice cantine and several outlets selling food and drinks

    Cons

Too many captains too many admirals and too many isolated teams not working together. This company is sinking in Europe, too expensive, too slow, bad slow or incomplete delivery of services

I have been working at Verizon for more than a year

    Pros

the one thing that Verizon does well is pay, that is if you manage to make your target, which is a challenge, but if you they pay very well. So average pay is ok but not outstanding. This also means they manage to attract good, capable people. though see the "cons" section below

    Cons

Verizon is a US company and a old telco, everything is centralised and driven by processes and if a process is broken you define a new process to help fix the old process, which means you have two processes before long, and so one and so forth. It's impossible to do things fast. the time-zone delay doesn't help either (. For a sales person this is a very big minus, it means you can do fewer deals and have less change to make your target. Verizon is also addicted to numbers, Sr. management tends to forget that looking at numbers and rearranging them and asking for some more numbers doesn't improve sales. The end result is that Sr. management isn't as effective as they should be in selling and help navigating Verizon's complex organisation (see above). Within the group I work in we're selling complex, high value, projects, non transactional more business development. Yet Verizon's mode of operations is very transactional, week by week reporting, it's a model that works for retail wireless sales, not so much for complex IT solutions. This result in unreasonable pressures (both sides). The result is that even after 2 years I find it very hard to close a deal without escalating, it's simply not possible the follow the process (there are too many!) to get things done. In the end this means that everybody is screaming for attention all the time and it's very much a 'my deal is more important that yours and needs more resources' environment.
