I have been working at Virgin Holidays Limited part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great atmosphere, great benefits but most importantly the best management. No matter what level of management they are always available to have a chat, from your store manager to Director level. I have worked with Virgin Holidays for over 8 years and would recommend the company to everyone.

    Cons

The pay could be better but your benefits more than make up for this. There could be more opportunities for progression in retail for part time staff.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what your doing.

I have been working at Virgin Holidays Limited full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flights, flights flights and flights?

    Cons

Certain newly promoted experts sharing fellow contact centre consultants wages and private information whilst laughing about it - will be hidden from HR and swept under the carpet.

Promotion and progression based on Cliques

Same cliques get away with stat manipulation to get bigger pay outs, when pointed out management laugh and do nothing whilst sacking others

People have domestics in middle of contact centre and screaming at each other

    Kids running around at weekend

Managers more interested in online shopping and ordering take away than working

    Advice to Management

Sort of the contact centre, it has a bullying culture for certain experts and managers.

I worked at Virgin Holidays Limited full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only good thing I saw at Virgin holidays was the travel benefits. However as you'll see there's an issue with that as well. ( good luck affording it in the first place)

    Cons

So, where to start. The Training at Virgin Holidays is abysmal and does little to prepare you to sell a holiday, they drag you up for a two week course near gatwick so you'd think the training is intensive... it's not, it's boring, irrelevant and innacurate and done with little effort. In regards to management you won't know who you're supposed to answer to. If you're lucky you'll have an expert in your concession, if you're don't well you'll make tons of mistakes and be held accountable for it even though you have no one to help. Salary wise you're on minimum wage... Commission I hear you say!? good luck hitting your unrealistic target!!! Oh by the way you're actually applying to work at a Tesco, Sainsbury's or a house of fraser... but you'll get a 6x6 box area that says virgin on it so you can pretend... Management by the way is constantly changing, They're ruthless with letting people go, including the management so don't be surprised if the negative 1 to 1's feed down to you.

So yeah, if you're happy to be on 15k p/a for a full time 9:30 to 6:30 job and work weekends.. umm go for it?

    Advice to Management

    Sort it out

    Pros

Good work ethos in general, good quality uniform and training programme too many to list, working for virgin is an amazing experience with the right people leading

    Cons

No stand alone stores usually within a department store as a concession, had to walk the streets giving out flyers, this isn’t an issue except for when your manager doesn’t pull her weight doing the same, spends all of her time selling and then slates you in your perf review, oh and turns up on a Sunday two hours late stinking like a brewery and spending the rest of the shift moaning about anything and everything

    Advice to Management

You are trusted to be fair and professional, don’t expect to be lazy and you staff to work like trojans, lead by example and be respectful and approachable, you will reap the rewards of hard working and loyal staff.

    Pros

Cheap flights - And you can get away with murder

    Cons

Regional sales managers are totally useless, no guidance, no support and not a clue. Half the time you are sitting doing nothing, the other they want you to go and leaflet in a store with limited customers. Staff only care about their own next holiday and not the customer . Same sales every year and internet is ALWAYS cheaper, with better deals too. Struggle to make money and the most boing job in travel. Great if young and single, come in hungover, go home early and use your flights, no one will pull you up on anything as management are never there.

    Advice to Management

You need better regional managers and the Divisionals / Areas are useless.

I have been working at Virgin Holidays Limited full-time

    Pros

    - Travel Benefits
    - Good Team
    - Good Training Given
    - Opportunity to earn more

    Cons

    - Uniform (You have to wear make up/pencil skirt/ red nails/ hair up/ Heels etc)
    - The basic wage isn't great (You're expected to make it up with commission)
    - Heavily Targeted role
    - Can be "sharky", people stealing bookings etc.
    - A lot of working from home/ on days off.

    Advice to Management

Lets ditch the sexism. Do you really want to be a brand that represents woman as pin-ups? Its old fashioned, not classy- move with the times. Give a better living wage.
