I worked at Virgin Holidays Limited full-time

    Pros

Good work ethos in general, good quality uniform and training programme too many to list, working for virgin is an amazing experience with the right people leading

    Cons

No stand alone stores usually within a department store as a concession, had to walk the streets giving out flyers, this isn’t an issue except for when your manager doesn’t pull her weight doing the same, spends all of her time selling and then slates you in your perf review, oh and turns up on a Sunday two hours late stinking like a brewery and spending the rest of the shift moaning about anything and everything

    Advice to Management

You are trusted to be fair and professional, don’t expect to be lazy and you staff to work like trojans, lead by example and be respectful and approachable, you will reap the rewards of hard working and loyal staff.

    Cons

    - Hours can be long but also worth it

    Advice to Management

Sometimes being pro-active is better than being reactive to the market

I have been working at Virgin Holidays Limited full-time

    Pros

    - Travel Benefits
    - Good Team
    - Good Training Given
    - Opportunity to earn more

    Cons

    - Uniform (You have to wear make up/pencil skirt/ red nails/ hair up/ Heels etc)
    - The basic wage isn't great (You're expected to make it up with commission)
    - Heavily Targeted role
    - Can be "sharky", people stealing bookings etc.
    - A lot of working from home/ on days off.

    Advice to Management

Lets ditch the sexism. Do you really want to be a brand that represents woman as pin-ups? Its old fashioned, not classy- move with the times. Give a better living wage.

    Pros

    Free flights
    Nothing else really appeals

    Cons

Senior management needs to take a deep dive into what they’re doing to their staff and retail model. You are expected to change your structure at the drop of a hat and be put under immense pressure. Staff are not valued as a person but rather as a number, the attrition rate is ridiculous but is there any surprise when staff aren’t getting developed and coached like they used to. There is no real hands on approach in management, some managers are looking after 6/7 stores whilst others after 1, where is the consistent and equal pay across the retail estate. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing and top line management is a mates club, you get in and excel, or don’t and fail. The free flights are a benefit but what happens when they get taken away?! Staff are moaning all the time that they’re getting paid a ridiculously low wage in comparison to other tour operators yet expected to work harder. When is the last time a staff member had a real in depth 1-2-1? When was the last time a manager spent quality time in their stores with the staff, we would all love to turn up at 10, send a few emails and then leave at 4, but the reality is, great managers in other businesses are hands on, approachable, realistic and valued.

    Advice to Management

Take a real look at what is happening across the retail estate. Listen to the staff and value what they want, stop being so arrogant and egotistical! You think you know what you’re doing but in comparison to other businesses, if you’re not careful, you will sink.

    Pros

Lovely product to sell and amazing travel benefits which is the only reason people stay.

    Cons

Unrealistic targets, people not treated fairly. Constantly left working on your own covering concessions that are open until 8pm or later.

    Advice to Management

Look after your people who can do the job well instead of being more concerned about red lipstick! It is a shambles but they do not listen to people on the shop floor and how unhappy they are. Hopefully at some point this will change before this fabulous brand is completely ruined by inept management.

    Pros

Travel perks, amazing flight upgrades for next to nothing.

    Cons

    Salaries
    Face fits culture
    Bad senior management
    No fam trips
    Restructuring constantly.

    Advice to Management

Best decision leaving !! There is life after v hols.
The good old days of v hols are over. Now they employ inexperienced people who look good in the uniform.
I’ve heard they’ve started handing our disciplinary‘s to those not having red lip stick on. What a joke.
