Went rapidly downhill in the Chris Rawson restructure times and ventures into Europe and beyond. Takeover by Mastercard was the final stage of demise.

      Unprofessional behaviour from Manager

Dec 11, 2021 - Bizops Engineer in Rickmansworth, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Opportunity to learn on the job enforced by workload Flexible working

      Cons

I have worked for Vocalink for more than 2 year of which 1 year was during the Covid pandemic where I worked from home. There was very unprofessional behaviour from my manager in the form of being verbally told off for the simplest of reasons e.g. using initative or sharing information within team. Extreme micro management from manager. This caused unnecessary friction and tension in the team and also discouraged from speaking my mind or putting ideas forward. Keeping silent and playing Noddy was the only way to making it through the job. The turnover for the job was very high and almost everybody was treated similar ways. Despite staff (including myself) reporting this to HR no action was taken.

      Difficult to progress

Oct 8, 2021 - Director in London, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good colleagues, the company ensures that the employees are feeling safe and at ease during these COVID times. They even adapted by providing meeting-free days.

      Cons

As a director, it is hard to move to the next level (VP), and also if you want to move to another region, although the company encourages it, they don't provide relocation packages. Align the salaries to the market.

      people come people go

Sep 27, 2021 - Software Developer in Rickmansworth, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Well, you have a job. Also, some of the benefits, like maternity/paternity leave are great, like 8 weeks. There is a lot of great people around you. You can WFH, while Covid lasts. Sick leaves are easy to use.

      Cons

The general approach is "people come, people go". On one day you might work 14 hours (unpaid for overtime, as the project runs out of money) because there is not enough people. On another day you will hear management saying that "people leaving does not impact as hard as you could think", "people come people go". Salaries are on the lowish side, even for the management. Sometimes you are pushed to work crazy hours or weekends for free. Oh, nobody will order you, but you will be told that "this project has to be finished by the end of the month". You might expect your line manager to come to you after an "anonymous survey" and have it explained why your opinion is wrong. Mgmt's statement that "can spend 10% time on your studies" is not true. Just check how often people go to conferences. You will find that those do go to conferences do it in their free time and hide it from management.
