    Positive Outlook

I worked at Volvo Construction Equipment full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The feel of a smaller family company but with the support and benefits of a global corporate organisation Very good communication within the GB dealer, upwards and downwards. Online ability to submit questions to the Directors, company satisfaction surveys, meetings with employee reps from each location to look at improvements, and management visit other sites. Really good culture in the main, respectful of others,...

    Cons

Its multiple site so you don't get to know people at other sites very well unless you deal with them in your direct role. This also means career opportunities are limited - there may be an ideal job but at a different site. However, there are also jobs in Volvo Group you can go for.

I worked at Volvo Construction Equipment

    Pros

Good benefits package and used to be a company you could be proud to be associated with.

    Cons

Bad management practices, a slightly paranoid mistrust in its employees. No discernable recognition of the value of its long term employees vast experience and understanding of customers needs. Lastly a definite old school attitude towards personal progression, merit and personal skills are overlooked in favour of who you know. Sycophants will do very well.

    Advice to Management

I would advise Swedish management to look closely at the management structure and current practices in the UK. Volvo have always produced enviable products but their current reputation within the UK community is very poor mainly due to bad management and organisational attributes.

I worked at Volvo Construction Equipment full-time

        Pros

        * It's a high-time experience, where you know and learn from mistakes; when the R&D and Production Unit is at the same premises. * Lots of opportunities to learn the new technology. * Easy connect place with different departments for a best product output.

        Cons

        * Knowledge people are required, that doesn't mean to retain management level and fire/transfer the working level people (if at all required). * The WoW in Sales is different from other brands (in the same segment)

        Advice to Management

Organization needs a shake. Also, they should look upon youngsters at Management level for a change, in bringing a high-time growth.

I have been working at Volvo Construction Equipment full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Hardly any weekends except for when there's inventory or buyback. Once you get familiarized with what's expected of you, the job is not hard at all.

        Cons

No room for growth. I haven't heard of anybody from within being promoted. If you are good with the bosses, you may have a chance. The pay is extremely low so you better have a side gig.

        Advice to Management

        Promote from within. No favoritism.

I have been working at Volvo Construction Equipment full-time

        Pros

You can't beat the vacation time, 401K, and insurance benefits offered, that is what keeps employees there. Most managers are opened to new and better ways of doings which is encouraging to employees. There are opportunities to move laterally to different departments.

        Cons

I can count on one hand the number of females in management positions, so if you are a female looking to grow your career this is not the place for you. The communication flows between some departments is not good which makes it difficult to get things done and make improvements. No maternity or parental leave for a company that is based out of Sweden. Sweden tries to run everything which doesn't work out for a company...

        Advice to Management

Add diversity to management and put people in charge who are knowledgeable about the departments they are leading. Add parental leave benefits. Lose the non-value added meetings/projects.
